Well, these things make you 20% better. I think we all know it's low double digits in terms of productivity might be 10 for some developers might be 30 or 40% might be different based on the project or the day of the week
It does seem like AI companies provide enough value and there's enough sampling going on in our industry where people like to just pull out 20 bucks and pay for something or even more, and Cursor, I think is a bit more, you can correct me on their pricing, but if you're a developer, you're going to want to use a co-pilot, you know, whether it's GitHub's co-pilot or Cursor's, whoever's, and if you can make a developer 1% more effective and the average global developer is a hundred K a year, that'
So first of all, the pro plan costs 20 bucks a month. If you pay monthly, it's 16 bucks a month. If you pay yearly, the business plan is 40 or 32. So my view here is very simple. I think Cursor's either charging way too little or way too much, but because we all think that it is actually helping people become that much more productive, these prices are missing a zero in my view.
The first one, Cursor, any spheres product that helps people do vibe coding, Natasha Moscawanis over at the information reports, it has now reached 200 million ARR. The last number we heard from him is 100 million, doubling in such a short timeframe, Jason, is in fact bonkers, I think is the right word.
I would have a war chest. I would delete 20%. I would have a sick war chest. And then I would go do what you're saying. Buy other companies, invest in other companies.
You would invest in them. You would create the cursor venture arm of the company. Like there's all kinds of creative things you can do to just solidify your position. Cursor labs where you do like weird hackathons and you invest in companies.
I would raise 2 billion. I would raise 2 billion.
If you were a cursor, Jason, and you're looking at the ability to raise the $10 billion valuation so you can raise with very, very little dilution. Would you go out and buy smaller regional competitors?
We'll wait and see, you know, who the winners and losers are at consolidation. But this is the thing. When you have a company like this, the most important thing to do is not sell it. The most important thing to do is to build a war chest and to obsess on making the product sticky so you don't have any churn.
They should raise as much money as possible. I know it sounds crazy, but I think that this category is very easy to put a product out in this category. There's so many people doing it that you really want to use that capital as a weapon, be able to lower prices and then drown out competitors, right?
TAM can expand two ways, horizontally, vertically. You get more users, you get more features.
I think I'd be happy to invest in either Winsurf or Cursor because why not?
currently, Cursor is reported to be working on a $10 billion valuation in its next round. $300 million ARR, Jason, 33X ARR.
I think the market's actually larger than we're estimating. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm just thinking that $9 billion feels small to me.
It's not going to be a winner-take-all market, but if they have half that market, it's a $50 billion company if they get half the market. If they get a third of the market, it's $30 billion, you get the idea.
You have $9 billion in revenue currently in TAM for this one product. And this is like a very affordable product at 30 bucks a month. $9 billion in TAM with a gross margin of 75%... This is a $100 billion company if they get the entire market, if it's a winner-take-all market.
this is growing like a consumer startup that went viral, but it's a SAS product. So that's what you're seeing here. If you can get consumer growth of a paid SAS product that creates just a wild experience.
one of the fastest growing companies of all time, we covered it recently on the show because after reaching a hundred million ARR at the end of 2024, it grew to 200 million ARR in March. And we were like, wow, that's crazy. Well, it turns out we should have been more impressed because now TechCrunch reports from two sources that it's 300 million ARR, which means it grew 50% in like a roughly a month or something along those lines. I don't really recall seeing their product grow in terms of reven
a hundred million in revenue of all time. I think it was the fastest to a hundred million.
cursor, which is the product from the company, any sphere. It's a series of AI tools that help developers write code, do agentic stuff. It's in that bucket of lovable and so forth.
If every developer can go five times faster, make 10 times less mistakes. If, if this, you know, continues at this pace of innovation and efficiency, what happens in the world next? Well, what happens in the world next is probably, uh, the cost of building an app goes down 10 X. The cost of, you know, building SaaS software goes down a hundred X
14,000 corporate clients, you know, depending on who they're going after, some of those might have a thousand developers, some might have a hundred. If they, if the 14,000 had a hundred, it should be 1.4. So it might be neck and neck, who knows? But yeah, great business. And it does seem like that's a business that is going to have profound second order and third order impacts, downstream impacts
this is going to be a very lucrative business. And I do think, you know, it could go to as high as $100 or $200 a month for these products.
founders should and their board should be extremely focused on revenue quality. You know, every day, every board meeting every week, you know, just what's the churn? Why are people churning? Are they looky loose?
Any sphere hit 100 million in ARR by March that had doubled and they estimate more than a million people are using cursor each day. But the interesting thing is they're only saying 14,000 businesses are paying for it. So overwhelmingly, these are individual coders buying it for themselves, not corporate accounts that are buying it for everybody.
it could go to as high as $100 or $200 a month for these products. So there might be, there might be 5 million people who pay 100 a month, 5 million people, 100 a month. Now you're talking about real chatter, you know, you're talking about 6 billion a year
it's a wonderful business to be in. And that might be the first early breakout. If you're making images, graphic design, yeah, that's a big business. Canva, Adobe, Figma, they're going to do great with AI based images. But developers, there's more at stake. And so I think that's probably why they're getting a premium. And always people pay a premium for the leader.
given that it was at $100 million at the end of the last year, it's still growing insanely quickly.
FT says that Cursor's revenue was $200 million ARR in April. But if you recall, we heard earlier from the information that it actually reached $300 million.
Cursor, which is the vibe coding application that everyone loves to use and talk about, that's made by any sphere, closed its rounds. The FT reports it raised $900 billion in a new round that puts its valuation all the way up to $9 billion.
if you want to do the math, $9 billion, $200 million ARR, 45X multiple, presume it doubles the rest of the year, $22.5 by the end of the calendar year, just doesn't seem that crazy to me.
these are going to be incredible businesses the business is strong venture has a bright future
the other four developers that they know are like saying to the two developers you don't use cursor are you an idiot and they get pulled in without an advertisement
they could be selling hundred dollar bills for 50 bucks right now and they need to fill in that gap and that gap would get filled in by people becoming addicted the price of compute going down and maybe their ability to charge going up and that's the J curve right you invest and you lose money lose money lose money then you stop having to invest money and you're growing growing growing and then wildly profitable because the cost stay fixed
cursor 10 billion 500 million also 20x yeah that's a trend just seems so cheap to me
if it gets to a billion in revenue like they should go public
this company could be going public so cursor you know if it does this again
this is combining the virality of consumer with a subscription model which it's kind of like Netflix or Disney plus when we saw Disney plus come out it really grew fast for that first couple of years in terms of the membership especially at $8 a month
this goes to show one that AI driven tooling for highly paid professionals is something that companies will just pay for
like wildfire it's kind of like slack spread like wildfire
it's absolutely insane that would be like 10% growth every week something in that mean week over week 10% growth is crazy
it's like 50% growth month over month it's crazy
it's another AI round what matters is this cursor says that it's now not at 300 million ARR as was reported it's now above 500 million in annual recurring revenue
cursor says that it's now not at 300 million ARR as was reported it's now above 500 million in annual recurring revenue going from essentially 100 to 500 in
And another company that does is Cursor. We'll talk about them in detail in a second, but I found it interesting that Anthropic, while talking to TechCrunch at their event about this decision, cited Cursor as a long-term customer of theirs. So I went back through the Cursor, which is the product made by AnySphere, but we call them Cursor because it's easier. They raised some of their earliest capital from OpenAI.
in 2023, very little revenue, nine zero, 2024 cursor was getting big. Lovable was tiny. And then this year they've become absolute goliaths, as Jason said, in the nine figure revenue range. So one of the fastest growing categories, I think in the history of technology.
cursor and lovable revenue... those two companies got to nine figures in revenue in like low single digit years
the question everybody has is the durability of this revenue. Is this durable, uh, or is it brittle revenue? And that's what we'll find out over time.
cursor founded in 2022, wow, 500 million in revenue, uh, they got to 500 million in under three years. Uh, they got a $10 billion valuation
Y Combinator, frankly, is being a little defensive. We had a couple of these brouhaha's coming up. They're kind of circling the wagons and attacking people. And, you know, it's kind of their vibe is to be a little cantankerous. But they're facing serious competition.
it's a bit of a factory.
all of these, I would say, including our program's launch, Accelerator, all a better option for founders now than Y Combinator. And that's not a dig at Y Combinator. I just put them in like the fifth slot now because I think you get a better deal economically.
So who's Roloff speaking to? He's speaking to LPs. I think he's doing LP management in this discussion of, hey, you are an LP in venture capital, but we also have this Sequoia Heritage kind of Sequoia fund.
It's probably going to be Sequoia because they're trying to keep it more boutique-y. Who's going to have more assets under management? Probably going to be Andreessen Horowitz and these people just going big.
Sequoia is trying to keep the industry small, focused, and elite. Because that's how they made all their big wins, right? You don't want to chase. So they're trying to keep their fund size the same so they can have that IRR. They're not trying to do what Andreessen is doing, which is making giant funds that, you know, revert to the mean and have lower return profiles, but more money, more capital under management.
So, you know, if you want to, like, send people their laptop and, you know, make sure you understand what they're doing with their computers and all that stuff, yeah, all that is kind of in this.
But, you know, they do HR, but it's more than just payroll. It's not just ADP. They'll also do, like, IT services.
That's why I felt like their 14.4X multiple felt a little bit low because, you know, Rippling is, you know, a $500 million valuation difference in roughly half the revenue.
But they both have essentially the same $17 billion valuation. So that's fascinating. I wonder why the one with twice as much revenue doesn't get a double valuation or why the one with half as much revenue. If that's true, it's a private company. It's hard to get the information.
According to reporting that I could find, it's much smaller than Deal.
They're both companies at scale, Jason, that could go public at will.
The Rippling ARR number was 570 million earlier in 2025.
I think they're both killers.
Both companies are great.
And, you know, they charge on a per-employee basis. But they will move into consumption AI disruptive products, I predict. These are companies that have good enough management teams that they'll both start moving into the AI space. But I could see both of these companies, you know, becoming worth hundreds of billions of dollars and having a chance if they globally become the employer of record, the HR tech of record, you know, your entire stack for companies. Because it's kind of like network ef
both of these companies, Rippling and Deal, are incredible businesses. And they're from the era of SaaS. Very much so. Yes.
And I just wanted to run the number of bikes. It seems low for the current era. Companies are quite expensive. And this one has proven itself in global footprint and profitability just feels minor to me.
Well, at a $1.2 billion run rate, Jason, his company is now worth roughly 14x ARR.
cap-based spun out now of Deal. So Main Street has acquired cap-based.
I own shares in Deal, cap-based is being spun out. This other group bought it. So we're not participating in that.
I have a tiny number of shares in this company deal.
A very impressive company, even given the shadow hanging over it.
First up on the docket, Deal raised $300 million. And Jason, we've talked about Deal on the show quite a lot this year, mostly because it's been locked in a spying dispute with Rippling, another company in the HR tech space. We read through its, let's say, alleged activities. Yeah. And if you believe Rippling and they're telling another story, Deal effectively had a mole inside of Rippling and was using that to collect information that it was using to compete with them and also hire away their s
If I was a developer of any kind, I would never work with Sam Altman and OpenAI.
A crazy performance from Amazon. And I think Amazon is my pick for the stock of the next five years.
Amazon, 20.2%, the best in 11 quarters over at Amazon.
Yeah, this clearly is the huge win. If you need stock music, you want to make a song for somebody's wedding, like a parody song, or you're doing music for your event and you don't want to have to pay for live event music, license it. You know, like if you do a conference and you were to use somebody else's song in your conference, they might ask you to pay a fee for it. So yeah, it's just absolutely incredible.
I think something to think about is where will the biggest impact be at first? I think obviously it's kind of the fun factor that I think if you think about score composers, that's a huge market buying a song for your, for your TV show or commercial, that process is usually takes, you know, a couple of weeks, even a couple of months going back and forth with the, usually it's like a freelance artists who you hire one time for that gig. You have to go back and forth.
I think that I'm going to rate this tool a seven at the moment. I think that there's still a lot of room for improvement, but I think this is really the first great tool that I've messed around with, um, in terms of AI and music.
for non musicians, a tool like this really allows, opens up the world of creating music to millions of people. And that's why we've seen crazy ARR numbers in revenue, um, from Suno. And I know that they're raising it a higher valuation.
I think that this is just V 1.00, um, beta of this tool. So I do think that they will start incorporating other aspects of a tool like Ableton or logic, where you have more ability to really play with the track.
I think I'll definitely keep paying for it.
I did try to add a accent to a track that I was working on and it didn't really work. So hopefully that's coming soon.
So that's kind of what Suno was looking to implement here as producers are familiar with.
It is $30 per month. You get 10,000 credits.
I was what I was looking for. Either I'm a master prompter or this is really smart.
Perfect. Sounds more auto-tuned actually. Yeah. Anyway, whatever this is, it's super fantastic.
Of course, less than sweet greens. It's also known as free. Anybody can, an Uber driver, a door dasher who's delivering sweet greens can afford to eat at sweet greens. If something costs less than your average sweet greens order, which I think is about 25 bucks
Let's call it what it is. Yes, exactly. It's free. A dollar a day is free. If it costs, let me just explain to people. If it costs more than sweet greens, it's free.
I've been playing with Suno basically all week and I've already, I'm only 1500 credits through, so you really have to be abusing Suno. So it's basically free.
This is wild, Jason, because I remember playing with Suno and Nudio back when they were pretty nascent and like it was a 30 second snippet. You couldn't change much. Now it is so much more granular.
I have written artist names in here. It doesn't flag it. I think it kind of just depends on how it's feeling.
So like any LLM, there's any model, you're able to kind of get around it.
So we got a little bit of an error here.
And it always makes two versions of whatever your prompt is.
And you do want to kind of put in some lyrics so you can actually generate lyrics directly in Suno.
I think something that's really important to note is that Suno is a company that's making AI-generated music. They recently released their V5 model, which was just their newest, most upgraded model. It's great fidelity. The vocals sound really clear. Overall, the song structure is much better. But they also recently released Suno Studio, which is a huge upgrade from what they previously had because it allows you to dive deeper once you start experimenting with the tracks that you made.
Suno did reach $150 million in ARR. That's incredible.
Just to give people a little bit of context here, it is a San Francisco-based startup with roots in Kazakhstan. And they offer to consumers, essentially, a lot of AI models you can play with. Some are open source, some are not. And you pay for a monthly number of credits, essentially.
I have to say, hey, Air Director Lon, you can jump in on this since this is your wheelhouse. This is actually, putting all jokes aside, what a great way for a casting director to see what a person might be like.
You know, it's pretty effective. Keep going.
The reason why this is blowing up, and I wanted to show it to everybody, is that the face swap is bonkers good.
Let me say this. I would never work with Sam Altman and OpenAI. Let me say that. This is a warning. People can clip this.
spacex is going to either pay cursor 10 billion dollars for this model collaboration that they're working on or they're going to at the end of designing this model just buy cursor out for 60 billion dollars by the end of 2026 at some point
spacex and cursor are partnering on ai models of course cursor the popular ai coding model and harness company they're going to work together to create and i quote the world's best coding and knowledge work ai as a team or as cursor put it we're partnering with spacex to improve composer
they released composer 2 which is their latest model that they built for themselves it was announced a couple weeks back and it does seem to perform quite well against industry standard benchmarks i.e it's competitive with the models from the best companies
cursor has done a very good job competing with codex from open ai and also cloud code from anthropic as those two coding products lawn have become the de facto of the industry cursor has continued to grow it's reached i think two billion in annualized run rate as of earlier this year a very impressive number
I think that was one of the big problems that cursor had was just you had to pay all your revenue out to someone and now they're not paying the revenue out. So you just when they build their next model, you know, that's going to be built on the Colossus stack. So that is a huge advantage.
I think a lot of cursors revenue is enterprise. Like you just signed a deal with Microsoft and you saw like a million seats or it's probably too big of a number. But I think I saw that they just crossed a 4 billion run rate. It's mostly enterprise.
I think Cursor has more market share than we might've expected because I feel like the conversation in the last six months has been all about Cloud Code and Codex. And apparently Cursor has been growing very quickly.
almost certainly. Okay. When you're in a parent company, it's the same. If you play Instagram out, you play YouTube out. It's the same. Like, I was there, you know, on Instagram. I was there on YouTube. So you just watch how these companies became much, much even larger than anybody expected.
being able to control the IDE where all the developers are developing is an incredible spot to be. So yeah, I think ultimately you're going to see it's a really, really good deal over time.
I agree with Jason. I think it's an incredible acquisition. Number one, it changes the narrative. It augments the narrative of SpaceX being an AI-native platform.
Great acquisition for everybody.
And to own SpaceX stock, pretty great deal.
Now that they have Colossus behind them, and they have essentially unlimited compute, and when compute goes to space, they'll have extra unlimited compute, it's just an amazing exit.
So I think Elon gave them a 50% premium. So Cursor was at the time, I think when they did this deal, at $2 billion run rate.
Somehow Elon and Cursor got together, Elon being a little bit behind with his LLM being in third or fourth place.
So Cursor then had a problem. They called a red alert, a code red, and started building their own models, but they didn't have compute.
They then released Claude Code. And so they found themselves as Cursor now having no compute, having no foundation model
They had a couple of challenges. If you look at the history of the firm, they were built off of Claude. Claude and Anthropic then built an internal coding project, probably because they saw Cursor's token use. And some large percentage of Anthropic's usage was coming from Cursor.
I think Cursor is a fantastic company.
some of these co-pilots like cursor had hit pretty crazy revenue numbers with even more than a million dollars per person doug
Polymarket says all of this is faked. A complete SpaceX acquiring cursor 74% chance.
friends of ours who were supposed to wire into that round were like, where's the wiring instructions?
the $10 billion breakup fee will go back to SpaceX anyways, because if they actually run the compute and they're not owned by SpaceX, they're going to have to pay for it.
they have a $10 billion breakup fee
seems pretty smart for Elon to buy cursor.
One of the things that's really good about Cursor is they've got this very well built out IDE, this application layer that puts them probably from a UX perspective, meaning developers are using the tool above Codex, above Claude, above anything else.
There's no reasonable way that Elon's going to pay $60 billion and not run on top of Grog. I got to think.
The acquisition was essentially negotiated, and the way that it's structured is so that the S1 doesn't go stale.
I think these two companies are very complementary. Cursor obviously is very strong in coding. That's what it brings to XAI. XAI brings compute and they bring a foundation model. And the problem that Cursor had is that even though coding is kind of like the white-hot area of AI right now, when it got started, it was really competing against generalists in the form of OpenAI and Anthropic. But now those generalists have decided to vertically integrate in this area of coding, right? And so Cursor
You know Cursor, that's the AI coding startup. Really, they define the category. XAI and Cursor are building and collaborating on a new AI coding model that would, quote, be the world's best coding and knowledge work AI. Here's the deal. As it's been explained, SpaceX will either buy Cursor by the end of 2026 for 60 billion, that's 10 billion more than they were rumored to be raising at, or they will pay Cursor $10 billion for their collaboration together. Bloomberg says you can think of that $1
