starlink alone could be generating on the order of 40 billion dollars of revenue top line with a huge amount of that flowing to free cash that could be a 30 billion dollar free cash flow within the year that alone provides the cash flow to fund much of what elon's doing and if you just put a 30x multiple on that which i think you can because these subscription businesses are very high renewal rate very low cac i think you could probably get a 30x just on the starlink business the starlink busine
i think starlink's just an unbelievable juggernaut cash machine if you look at the financials
the whole telecom aspect seemed very on track and they're very bullish about that
we haven't even talked about starlink and what he's going to do uh you know i think going to run the table on mobile
I think Starlink is probably driving your market. And the reason I say that is, like, the minute costs get reduced, new use cases always come about.
They also run their own constellation, which is something like Starlink, but that is fundamentally different than being a bus vendor. Now we might have customers who buy a satellite bus and want to provide internet connectivity, and they've carved out a niche use case that's different than Starlink, and that's great for them.
Yeah, I just don't think it, I just don't think it withstands, you know, sort of even casual scrutiny. Again, I think you can look at it, you know, narrowly, or again, just the macro view that, you know, come on, the federal government is relying on Starlink, um, entering into contracts with them. So the idea that, you know, it's not a reliable technology, just, it just doesn't, you know, seem to make sense. Good enough for the military, good enough for a rural farm. I think we can all, uh, or g
They're going to enter into contracts with Elon Musk, Starlink for this, but where they think they can get away with it, where it's not going to actually compromise one of their own policy priorities. Then you see actions like the revocation of, of the Starlink award.
So yeah, you can look at it as $1,300 in subsidy for Starlink versus almost $5,000.
But yes, if you're looking at this from the perspective of how do we quickly and efficiently bridge the digital divide, then looking at something like Starlink or Amazon Kuiper when it gets going, um, that would be the most efficient way.
It's what we're talking about. It's the efficient use of resource, but also time, right? I mean, you can get a Starlink system virtually overnight. Whereas if the federal government says, wait, I think fiber is better. It's a better technology in my view as a government. Okay, fine. What, four, five years to trench the conduit, get the permitting process done. So it's both money and speed of connectivity.
with this Starlink technology, we were providing as a government, we're planning on about $1,300 per location and a subsidy to make sure that Starlink would be available there.
we really sort of created an entirely new standard and applied it only to one of those 180 winners, which was Starlink and said, look, since you're not doing 120 today, we're not, you know, reasonably confident that you're going to do it in the future. And again, it was a backwards decision, too, because they looked at the Starship, the Starship launches and they said, well, those have been failures. And I'm thinking to myself, you know, we made fun of trade press that thought that those were fa
Yeah, look, again, we didn't have any milestone or deadline for Starling to kick in until 2025.
It's because it's impractical to run a cable up a giant mountain. You'd have to bury it. You know, it'd be incredibly costly.
Now you can throw a $99 Starlink mini up and everybody gets to post their pictures or check their email.
And, and increasingly they are on startling networks. When I was in Japan, I sent you a picture of like, I was like, dude, every lift in Japan had a Starlink at the base. Yeah. And I was like, wow, why don't they have internet at ski resorts? I was always wondering that, like, it'd be so great for sharing photos, et cetera.
I would love to see starlink as part of tesla i know this sounds crazy but imagine every tesla had a starlink built into the hood or built into the roof the trunk whatever then they all propagated wi-fi networks everywhere so you would be driving or whatever you'd have two million cars every year go on the road with a wi-fi network you would have high speed internet everywhere a tesla was you know no matter where you are in the world if you owned a tesla or you had a starlink account you could t
no matter where you are in the world if you owned a tesla or you had a starlink account you could then piggyback onto other people's it would be extraordinary

is it just capex with government sales pipelines and it's really hard to attach an internet services business to your rocket company is genius because they each pay for each other
you might be able to buy a starling 25 a month subscription which then lets you go on to any
i predict that every tesla produced will have a satellite dish on it i don't have any inside information on this it's just a prediction but imagine if every cyber truck eventually or every uh one of the tesla semi trucks or every
so now people with boats are all putting starlinks on their boats and then you have rvs now they're starting for rvs then you have uh outposts uh and they have planes they've come up with one for planes and then you have buses
starlink would then be spun out it'd be its own uh ipo and then you'd have the spacex business and then you have the sterling businesses so there could be two ponies inside this one barn
it's a potentially 100 plus billion dollar a year market with 10 percent of
verizon and at t you know their revenue in the united states left in 2021 133 per billion uh for verizon and 169 or so for at and t in 2021 and they have other businesses but they're primarily data businesses and i think that's what people are seeing here now
you're gonna see starlink direct to cell you're gonna see like a tiny little chip that connects your phone uh your phone or your drone to a satellite um from anywhere in the world where spacex lets you do that
they have a highly directional antenna uh and it's uh it it makes it much more difficult to uh to jam that that kind of phased array
starlink has basically just like completely uh blocked that capability or made it like so inaccurate that you know it's maybe like 50 kilometers precise unless you pay them a bunch of money for like military starlink uh contract
if google or starlink if you had an account like you do for um some of the other networks i think time water does it and um a bunch of other ones imagine every tesla had or some number of teslas or robo taxis all had a satellite dish on the hood or the trunk or whatever uh the roof and then they were putting out this starlink broadband everywhere the idea that you would not be able to get broadband
there was an announcement about apple and starlink working on direct to uh phones and i know that's always been in the works as a possibility like even i think those are even lower earth orbit satellites to be able to hit your phone so i think what we're going to have is a a multiple stack on phones
china beats starlink to high-res space ground laser transmission at 6g standard it's basically 100 gigabits now i don't bring this up to say that china is about to take over starlink and win i'm just trying to say that the technology to make faster transmission from ground to satellite and back is increasing around the world so i think what you're describing is going to be technologically feasible and probably with us in a couple of years
it passes it you know nine out of ten minutes perfectly maybe even 99 out of 100 i haven't tested it for this in a long time but it has to be much more than that obviously to be reliable for a two-hour podcast or something
it really is amazing how much of a march starlink has stolen on the rest of the world as they try to catch up china's building one too but i mean if starlink's already in japan and ukraine and the u i mean it'll be good to have redundancy chip away at it's always good to have competition and redundancy for just in case one of them gets compromised and also for pricing
at every base of these lifts was a starlink i believe for free and so it was like a game changer
that's really working everywhere
they were using starlink in a fighter plane apparently uh to the aviation version of it to get this like crystal clear you know hd video of it so shout out to the starlink team dude
SpaceX and Starlink have no business in China whatsoever. They're not, they're not allowed, you know, SpaceX doesn't launch, uh, China satellites, and Starlink is, uh, abandoned in China.
And obviously, would be catastrophic to the entire Starlink system, which is, you know, approaching 10 billion dollars.
if we were to get, say, uh, our control center were, uh, take down a cyber attack, they, you know, command all the satellites to the orbit. Um, and destroy the entire system. Uh, or use anti-satellite weapons. Um, so, you know, these are, this is a pretty significant risk. Um, for which we have not received any compensation.
at one point, uh, you calculated on our sort of cost of sporting things that are roughly a hundred million dollars. Now, the hundred million dollars does not count, um, the massive risk to the entire Starlink constellation.
It is the only thing that works on the war front. Everything else has been jammed by the Russians.
Starlink is the fundamental communication backbone of the Ukrainian government and essential services, like first responders and that kind of thing.
if you had never given Starlink to the Ukrainian government for free, voluntarily, you just volunteered it, then no one would be attacking you right now.
SpaceX have provided, uh, Starlink connectivity for, you know, to Ukraine, um, really since the beginning of the war. ... the, uh, region around, uh, Crimea, um, was actually turned off. Now, the reason it was turned off was, actually, originally, was because the United States had sanctions against Russia. Um, and we're not allowed to actually, and, uh, that includes Crimea in the sanctions. And we're not allowed to actually turn on, uh, connectivity to sanction the country without explicit gove
There are a number of airliners that have Starlink, and there will be a lot more in the future. The Starlink connection, assuming it's working properly, is you won't even be able to tell you're on the ground or in the air. Because unlike the geosynchronous satellites, the latency is, you know, really can be less than 20 milliseconds. So, it's, in fact, for a lot of, I think for some people, the sonic connection on the plane will be better than their connection at their house.
Starlink originally won these back in 2020 when they agreed to provide high-speed internet to 640,000 rural homes across 35 states.
Elon's response to this was, guys, OK, if you're going to cancel the contract for us, like just save the money because the competitors that you're giving it to have even less of a service than we do.
Starlink is the only company that has that capability today. It's the only one that has that capability if you look forward a few years. It is by far the best at providing broadband from space, which is the best way to get into these rural areas.
And Starlink obviously is perfect for that. It's actually the only solution for this really. She can't run fiber to these locations.
United Airlines just announced they're putting Starlink on a thousand of their planes and they're going to offer it for free. And Starlink now has 2,500 planes under contract with a bunch of other airlines.
we could spend a fraction of that giving people Starlink and allowing the private sector to do its job.
And why did we ever have copper wire laid all over the Earth to like move internet signals around?
Yeah, obviously. For sure. It's crazy. Especially if it can get to the phones.
We could look back one day and be like, why did we run all this copper wire everywhere? You know, like, we don't need it.
It could even be. It's crazy. And we'll look back on. It could be the first 500 million subscriber product in the middle.
I think the largest ones right now are like Netflix, you know, 250, Disney Plus, 150, Verizon, 100 million. So, yeah, it could be hundreds of millions of subscribers.
It could be the largest subscription business in the history of humanity.
Starlink's apparently, I mean, I know everyone here is a shareholder in SpaceX, but Starlink's running at 4 million subs right now. That's like 100 bucks a month, 4 million subs. And if you do the math, I mean, how many people have ISPs that are slower than Starlink, right? How many people have cell phone providers that they're paying roughly the same amount that aren't as good as Starlink? If we can get satellite to phone and you can get Starlink more broadly available, this could be 100 millio
Yeah, it's going to be amazing. And they're going to do some, I guess, new stuff with Starlink, some even lower Earth orbit satellites that go even faster and have less latency.
Maybe you could buy Verizon? Not out of the question, I suppose, if that may happen.
So, that would be one of the options. To be clear, we're not going to put the other carriers out of business. They're still going to be around because they own a lot of Spectrum. So, there's... But yes, you should be able to have a Starlink, like you have an AT&T or P-Mobile or Verizon or whatever. You could have an account with Starlink that works with your Starlink antenna at home for your Wi-Fi as well as on your phone. And, yeah, it would be a comprehensive solution for high bandwidth at hom
And that probably is a two-year time frame. So, the phones that are able to use the spectrum that was acquired probably start shipping in around two years. And then, we also need to pull the satellites that are going to communicate on those frequencies. So, in parallel, we're building the satellites and working with the handset makers to add these frequencies to the phones. And then, the satellites and the phones will then handshake very well to achieve high bandwidth connectivity.
