ARM gained share when cell phone compute emerged, while Intel and AMD lost it. observed
No person- or entity-level identity check is on record for this company. A name match is not one.
The inclusion bar: two or more independent sourced evidence families. This profile is reachable but not in the ranked index. It is a statement about how much evidence we hold, and about nothing else.
We have not established fit. That is not a soft no and not a soft yes — it is unknown, and it is never counted as a qualified prospect.

the opportunity going forward in terms of these large data centers doing some level of mixed inference and training, reasoning, reinforcement training, there's a lot of opportunities for ARM to do even more than what we're talking about today. So it's super exciting.
And every data center, whether it's running general purpose compute, whether it's running inference or running training, needs a base CPU to run everything, end quote. And that's our role. And whether that is going to be what we are part of today, which is GB200, and we're super happy to be partnering with NVIDIA on that product, or other areas that we haven't talked about yet in terms of productization, there's lots of opportunity for ARM because the base CPU will be ARM. And I think therein li
Part of it is, you know, he owns 90% of Arm, so I have a lot of investor meetings with him as my chief investor and talking about strategy.
And we did that with ARM. Right? And there are several others we're going to be doing it with. And that opens up opportunities for both of us. It's a win for both of us. Great, great win.
this is going to be a challenging one and it could be painful for the company if they can't find a suitor.
if we're going to block mergers and acquisitions, if the company is in decline, then you have to start thinking about the employees of that company and the survival of that company may be taking away a landing strip for that company. Who's going to buy it now? It's too expensive for most people to buy.
SoftBank can afford a couple of flops and these things are always a matter of price. So if the price gets low enough, somebody could snap it up or if the price is low enough, there could be some sort of a buyout that occurs.
So now they have to go public, but who's going to want to buy the stock in a company that's in decline or sideways. So what do you do? You then would have to manage it for profits and maybe cut staff and cut investment and then try to make profits off of it to try to make your money back. It's, you see how this becomes a quick debt spiral because you need investment capital in order to, um, you know, compete. And it's, it's an arms race out there. No pun intended. No pun intended. Uh, with these
them for $40 billion in cash and stock, meaning by the way, that arms valuation would have gone up only $8 billion since soft bank acquired it in 2016.
arm is sort of out in the cold and soft bank is trying to figure out what to do with them.
architecture for chips and processors and semiconductors. They don't manufacture chips themselves. They just designed the architecture IPO in 1998. Uh, Apple used to own about 15% of the company. And then in 2016 software soft bank acquired arm for $32 billion
it's owned by the state everything's owned by the state and the state can at any point in time tell you you no longer own it or you own half of it
does this sound like a a safe relationship with a company that makes up 25 of your revenue
arm china has possession of or access to certain material ip and customer data pursuant to the ipla ipla stands for intellectual property license agreement and other commercial arrangements with us us being arm although arm china is contractually obligated to protect this ip and data we are limited in our ability to monitor or influence the manner in which arm china protects our ip and data from theft loss or misuse
arm china is owned by a couple of different entities acetone limited is one of them that is an entity that's controlled and created by soft bank it owns 48 of arm china and arm the original arm holds a 10 non-voting interest in acetone which represents a 4.8 non-voting share in arm china so they own like a very small amount of it and they don't control it yeah 52 a majority stake of arm china is owned by a chinese private equity firm called uh hopu hopu h-o-p-u and quote other chinese parties so
using risk and they say you know what we're going to make 10 of our chips with this risk architecture that's open source and free okay so the 24 take 10 of that that's too poor 2.4 headwind of lost revenue and then if they keep you know expanding you you keep losing revenue you know uh so this is a um it's a it's a challenging business and it's a dogfight
it's a huge risk um when you have that what you have to do is quickly try to increase your customer base so that the percentage goes down
arms single largest customer is an entity called arm china this is an independent entity that has exclusive rights to distribute arm to distribute arms technology in china and last year arm china accounted for 24 one quarter of arms total revenue during its most recent fiscal year
the reason that the revenue was down slightly is because they are so concentrated in the smartphone market that when smartphone sales are down like they were globally the last year arms revenue basically reflects that so they're kind of just like a proxy for the smartphone sales
arm basically said they're pivoting into building chip architecture for cpus that can be used for ai and for cloud computing and it's been pushing pretty hard into cloud computing over the last couple years they also mentioned that in their f1 that amazon and alibaba both use arm-based chips in their cloud data centers so it seems like they are saying we are not just smartphones
private for a couple years and make it grow 10 year over year clean it up have an ai strategy it would be better timing
so companies are going to get pushed out public because they have no choice and that's what's happening here you would much rather keep this
we brought an investment from um nvidia qualcomm arm amd all the big chip companies
masayoshi-san had no choice but to get that company public because he needed to get distributions to people like um you know the the lps who are in the vision fund
arm went public today i think they priced their shares at 51 they raised close to 5 billion 50 plus billion dollar valuation it jumped 30 percent came back down to earth so i guess in some ways they priced it well
arm confidentially filed for an ipo back in april and they're seeking to raise between 8 and 10 billion later this year
Well, SoftBank has the D lever, right? They have a they have a very big problem, which is that they have this forget SoftBank Vision Fund for a second, but SoftBank itself is a telco operator that has ginormous piles of debt that they've used to finance the building of their business. And so when you have contraction, your core business, you become more and more at risk of breaching the covenants of all that debt, and or you just like run out of free cash flow, like all of these things really hu
Arm officially filed. It's F one. It's kind of like an S one for a foreign company. And they plan to go public next month arms revenue last quarter, 675 million down 2% year over year up 7% quarter of a quarter fiscal full year, 2023, 2.7 billion ish down 1% year over year arms major business. Uh, just so you know, is a smartphones 99% of smartphones, uh, are built with arms chip architecture embedded systems.
you have something called risky, which is an open architecture spec to essentially compete and create different versions of different chips that has implications more, I think, to arm
