Unproven ≠ false — it means the deadline or the evidence hasn't arrived. Nothing here is editorial: every count is a ledger row you can open on the Proof page.

The platform's own early signals for this company — hard-to-fake, and where one preceded a real raise, the measured lead.
In Ethereum, it's proof of state, which means that the weight of a node in consensus is based on how much economic value they have. It's the same thing in BitTensor.
And as a consequence, um, you know, we can dramatically reduce the, the, the cost of that commodity.
And well, where Bitensor started from was understanding that, hey, well, a really powerful computer should be applied to the most important computational problem of the 21st century, which is artificial intelligence. That's where the idea actually started.
And we do that on BitTensor as well, right? So, we also have smart contracts in the platform.
In order for the rest of us to take on OpenAI, we need to come up with a way that we can work together. For some people, mining BitTensor is like the most fun game they've ever played, ever.
the foundation itself is sort of um in a way handing over the reins the community and now we're sort of following the exact same um pattern as bitcoin where now it's being um the project is being maintained by uh really the entire community
it's been as high as a million dollars to buy a subnet um so it just depends on when you go look and i've seen it as low as like 100k
anybody can launch a subnet there's no it's permissionless which is kind of the great thing about it
i think a bitmaster kind of has the advantage there because we have 120 projects and growing that can even compete within itself
the price for hippias is quite a bit lower than everyone else including filecoin so it's 400 x to 4 000 x less um expensive
their investors include toby ludkey who founded shopify and yes and ram sriram who uh was the first investor in google so yeah so i've got some blue chip investors as well
tau itself um is acting as a medium towards access to all of these subnets you're unable to really uh i want to say buy and sell these without going through tau in the first place and as a result effectively these exchanges will have to really go through that process first before they're able to even allow users to buy and sell so this is not quite a blocker but it is more a mechanism to ensure that a tower itself represents all the subnets at the same time the value accrual of the subnets is re
yeah so to kind of put it into a context um when we first launched the subnets um when effectively people were able to speculate and kind of look into each um project and try to basically invest into it um i found myself effectively day trading because i just looking at each project and evaluating each one and seeing which one works and which one doesn't i found that that sort of it took up most of my time and the better idea was to actually um create an allocation mechanism to really kind of ta
the market cap of ridges right now is very low it's like around 30 million dollars uh compared to cursors 30 billion with a b so there's a right
the code base is coming from the miners so basically the miners compete with each other to improve the efficacy of the ridges product so just like you know like bitcoin does what bitcoin does for stranded energy but tensor does for stranded talent so anyone anywhere in the world can compete and the miners that are improving the subnet 62 product um they're earning something like 50k in subnet tokens per day so you know if you if you win the contest uh you you know you could you could make a mill
so you can go buy tau like you buy bitcoin and i don't give financial advice but if anybody's listening and you had a hundy that you were going to spend on some margaritas i'm going to say maybe drink some water uh you know get some filtered water tap water whatever have a nice tea put the other 99 dollars into uh just buying a little towel for yourself why not
the biggest news in bitensor in the last 24 hours has been the launch of ridges subnet 62's product now it's a vibe coding platform it competes with claude and cursor and uh and basically it's scoring uh 73 to 88 on the sweet benchmark test which is sort of like the sat that measures how effective a vibe coder is um so it's comparable or better than claude and it's scoring uh 96.3 on the polyglot test which is a different version a different benchmark but measuring the same thing so uh the price
my chips are pushed on a thing called bit tensor and the coin for that is tau and it's a very interesting new phenomenon it's basically taking bitcoin's mining side and making that programmable on a new chain so it's not on bitcoin it's on its own chain tap the tau chain and by making the mining side of it programmable it incentivizes 128 subnets which are sort of like companies to build new ai products so there's a hundred million dollars a year that are handed out basically as a subsidy just l
That's part of the benefits of being on bit sensor. We've got access to some of the best AI tools in the world.
this technology, um, it really, what it can achieve is, is not really been done before. So we can now get, you know, hundreds, if not thousands of videos created or a push of a button. And if you think about the admin saving on that, it's all validated against the creator, against the brand's messaging. So you can get waves and waves of content at the click of a button. Whereas previously that would have taken weeks, months, maybe even years to get that many videos out. So it's extremely powerfu
when we release a brief, uh, essentially, uh, that will say a video needs to talk about point a, b and c, as, as an example, and then creators create content that matches that. And they're basically scored on how much watch times, nothing to do with views is to do with how long they can keep people on the videos. So that comes down to, obviously the competition here is to make the most engaging visit videos possible, get the information across as accurately as possible. And the more you can keep
We're very unique in a way on BitTensor and our miners are YouTubers. So people essentially mine crypto with YouTube content and the platform, we can go into a lot more detail on how it all works, but essentially takes care of automating the whole process from creating the briefs to actually measuring attention.
I love the efficiency here of figuring out a model where it's like, here's exactly what we want in your video. And if you do a good job and you hit these three metrics, you, you get a little towel out of it.
The thing that really grabbed me about BitCast when I was prepping for you coming on was the idea of mining being something so far away from the proof of work, you know, Bitcoin OG setup
We are implementing some very, very interesting agents. There are some that are already in production. And for example, helping me select the molecules that are going for synthesis or helping me check which ones might already be covered by patents.
Miners, they have a power of breaking like really well published methods in a way that is insanely fast. And that is actually really, really good because in many cases, you just don't know what are the potential problems in your scoring function, right?
I think we have a competitive edge in technology that we're training in a decentralized way that goes beyond just resource efficiency and tapping a global network of like really cracked engineers that are competing for your token and for creating increasingly more valuable commodities.
Absolutely. Absolutely. ... Better than expected.
We operate as what is called a virtual biotech. That means we are running with a very lean team focusing on increasing efficiency and avoiding a lot of overhead for running internal wet labs.
We started off with a data set of a billion molecules, and then we layered on top of it, five combinatorial reactions. So our miners are essentially recreating, like they're using these generative approach to recreate what it would be like to synthesize molecules in the lab. And that brought it up to about 65, we estimate 65 billion possibilities.
We've grown to have two different incentive mechanisms. So right now our miners are doing two things simultaneously. They're either submitting molecules of interest based on whatever target we set for the competition. So we're like, Hey, find us the most interesting molecules that bind to serotonin and, or they're competing on their second incentive mechanism. That's focused on chemical search algorithms.
We launched March 1st of last year, and it was first of all, proof of concept of, can we even do this in a decentralized way? Like nobody had ever tried to do that before.
Subnet 68 is part of this grand decentralized platform that we're building for drug discovery.
emissions are, that's how people are getting paid. Like that the Tau gets, or the tokens get admitted to them based on their work, and that's how their fortunes rise over time.
the best way to talk about staking is to see this as a way to vote on the subnets that you believe. Depending on the amount of stake that is flowing through the different subnets, the chain is going to define how much emission the subnets are going to be receiving. So it is also a mechanism for you to vote with your Tau on the different, very different projects that are running on Bitensor of the 128.
one of the things that makes it very unique is the fact that you can use this network to train any kind of AI use case or to develop any kind of digital commodity that you can think of from renting compute to vision to drug discovery. And we're all in it together and benefiting from each other's success, which I think is something really nice that's coded into the way that the protocol works.
we're seeing that now it's humans and agents, right? So it's a marketplace for intelligence production.
The great thing about making a show about BitTensor is that every one of these subnets, they're doing different things with the core technology. It's one core concept or idea, but then you can use it in a whole lot of creative ways for all these interesting applications.
I love getting a diversity of projects all part of BitTensor because it shows what the project can do as a whole.
BitTensor is a decentralized network that uses crypto incentives to reward individuals who contribute useful AI models, compute or results to task specific subnets.
tplr.ai, if you want to learn more about one of the more exciting projects going on in Tau.
I did a little tweet, Tau greater than VTC. Oh yeah. I saw. And I think the reason I said that was, I feel like I've, and I've said this for a long time. I believe that something will replace Bitcoin.
So this is interesting. If you can provide an avenue for people to do pre-training now, uh, at an affordable price with the sub, with the minors and the validators all working to lower cost and grinding it down in a competition. This is a new avenue for people to do it.
Tao is the Bitcoin of AI... the only thing that matters is incentives. So that is the primary units in BitTensor. It's incentive.
you at home could now be a BitTensor miner for the very first time and not have to know anything about anything just download this thing set it up and now you're mining BitTensor it was fantastic I loved it
and yeah the dream of training in BitTensor is very much alive and kicking
I firmly believe it's the most ambitious thing that is being built within BitTensor right now and I think from a very high level what we want to be able to do is orchestrate the world's compute in the way that Bitcoin did but to train models that rival chat GPT frontier skill models and there is there is actually a growing consensus in the industry that training the next generation of very large models is it's becoming prohibitively expensive as I'm sure you guys are aware we're talking about da
the brilliance of it the incentive alignment engine of BitTensor is its core invention and everything within it is contest within contest within contest everybody's competing with everybody and only the most excellent get anything so you know in companies even the most the best run startup there's a lot of inefficiencies you have to hire people right some of them hide in the company successfully without doing very much and they're sort of mediocre there is no middle management when there's conte
incentives matter I think that's the key thing we've learned here Mark there are incentives all over the place and the game of Tau the brilliance of it dare I say is that it's very focused on incentives validators miners competing just it's an elegant and beautiful system when you look at the first subnet
what's so exciting about BitSensor is these are all extremely early stage companies that you wouldn't ideally have the ability to participate in in any other way and this is it's kind of a double-edged sword right your early stage startup is getting marketed you know is getting valued by the public market but the public can participate and I think that's what you need to do to keep AI beneficial to all humans have everyone that's participating have economic upside here
so that's one advantage to betting on subnets as opposed to trying to get into equity most people can't get in equity right so so this is this is a way for you to invest in the AI future as an unaccredited investor that you normally don't get
yeah I mean it's about 80% subnets right now oh wow but I want to back that off a little bit to you know maybe 30-70 but I think because I think we're in a unique period right now where you know if you make the right early bets
Cons released a new one this morning, where basically the ownership of the subnet is always up for grabs based on who locks the most tokens for the longest period of the time.
Konst gave a very, I thought, thoughtful reply to the letter that Sam posted. Yes. And it was a very legitimate response.
Do I believe that Sam's epistle about why he left because of decentralization is correct? No, I do not. And you can see this, the evidence, like nobody in the ecosystem believes that.
And it also looks like that his developers on his team were caught blindsided by this also.
And it created this sort of overwhelming temptation for, you know, a subnet owner who, when you're a subnet owner, you acquire a large number of your subnet tokens. They're emitted into your wallet, right? Because you get paid effectively by the chain for being a subnet owner. And if you have enough of them and there's the liquidity pool in the on-chain Uniswap that I described earlier, you can at any time just sort of flood that Uniswap with your tokens and exchange it back out for Tau. And if
something in BitTensor worked extraordinarily well. There's several things that are working pretty well, but it's because something worked. The incentivization alignment engine worked spectacularly well, but then it fell out of alignment when there was sudden success.
the price of Tau dropped about 25%
He dumped 37,000 Tau on his own subnet holders. It's about $10 million in money and he sort of walked away from the entire project.
they can also, if you have leadership and you have responsibility, you can mess with it. So we had last week somebody running, one of the subnets decided they wanted to take their marbles and leave the game and that's the core of what happened.
But it's very speculative, right? We're mining for gold, basically. We might not find it.
But there's also a class of product inside of BitTensor that I call the research subnets and these are people that are trying to do extraordinary things that don't necessarily have an obvious product market fit right out of the gate but if they work, they could be absolutely enormous, right? So great example of that. Well, Nova is a great example of that, right? So Nova is hunting pharmaceutical molecules and it's going to take a while for them to probably find one but if they do find one, it co
Yeah, so we've invested in about eight so far and we, you know, sort of the big ones are Ridges, Shoots, Hippias, Vidio, Score and basically all of these, what we look for, we're sort of conservative investors so far as one exists in the BitTensor ecosystem in that we look for subnets that have product market fit and revenue, right?
I saw a way to sort of, you know, fuse the crypto stuff with a decentralized version of what the centralized people were doing. And the more I understood what was going on there, the more I realized that this was sort of the Linux approach to, you know, it sort of reminded me of the OS wars when you had OS2, you had Microsoft NT, you had Sun Solaris, but who won? It was Linux, right? Linux powers 90% of our world today. And what I saw with BitTensor was sort of the early moments of what looked l
He said, yeah, let me tell you about this thing, BitTensor, Tau, and subnets. And I was like, that's legit. And then I watched the people getting involved in and said, these are legit people.
what I saw in BitTensor was quite a lot of early signal. I would say, you know, half the teams were doing something of value and were decent hypotheses. You don't know whether these hypotheses are going to pan out and become very large companies or phenomenons, but they are pretty good. So I've never seen an ecosystem where there is more early signal than the BitTensor ecosystem. So that's one of the reasons why I got very excited about it.
The reason why this all happened, the incentivization alignment engine worked spectacularly well, but then it fell out of alignment when there was sudden success. It created this sort of overwhelming temptation.
it's very difficult to find the right project... it can be very difficult to find parameterize your problem in the right way to get the actual most benefit out of it... it's kind of an art and it takes a lot of time... if you don't do that in the right way you won't end up in in a good place
as you make better models you can bring those to bear another subnet competitions therefore those will yield better results therefore bring in more people competition for emissions goes up tau becomes more valuable the ecosystem is worth more and then suddenly more people show up
we also have a partnership with subnet for targon which is run by manifold labs they're offering free compute to our uh incubated teams... we're creating a system whereby we've got a cross protocol um selection of existing infrastructure that can help power the latest ml researchers to success long term for these other subnets it's good for them commercially and it helps to create like a network effect of uh machine learning research on bit tensor
i think the founders um jake and ala and particularly jake like they're very amenable to what the next generation is going to look like right so yeah something happens in the ecosystem and they want to make the right move as fast as they can right and sometimes that that goes well sometimes it goes poorly but i think like that gradient of improvement is really fast it's accelerating
this answers the question that lon and i had in our notes which is you know how many more ideas are feasible for this adversarial decentralized model and it sounds like even inside of the very niche area of ml in particular because there are different projects out there uh tons of space left to build to to work and to host these competitions
there's definitely space within the ecosystem of bit tensor to have more machine learning... it almost feels in some way shape or form like the predominant energy feels like okay we need to do more machine learning... there definitely is a lot of space a growing space to do more fundamental research to do more collaborative research to do more like fundamental things on bit tensor to like you know push the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence forward
it will expand... they're definitely going to expand it to five six soon... subnets get deregistered right now every couple of weeks and other subnets are for sale so we've had a lot of new entrants in the past week alone we've had about three new subnets come in so the recycling is actually quite strong it's really intense competition
BitTensor is a network of incentives. So basically, the miners are incentivized. We give them money and they try to break our systems. And that's kind of the cycle of it. And this is that ever, I mean, the, the, the, that's the reason why, why we can be, you know, how we're agnostic that we can actually get a leg up of the froster because, well, we are inviting all of them into trying to break our systems before we build the protections in the solution that we provide to the market.
We saw BitTensor as a great opportunity to create this network of decentralized attackers into our models. And that's what lured us into BitTensor.
Next up on the show, we have Jose Caldera. He is the founder of Yanez, which is a BitTensor-backed company of sorts, Jason, rebranded from Yanez Compliance, if you're on the Googles.
i'm going to take the other side of it i think it's like it is too clever in the same way the united states of america was too clever people are like what are you doing why do all these like states have these state rights and how are you going to divvy up rights between the states and you know it turns out like sometimes if you do things that are not efficient and then you gain some other other qualities like resilience or competition and so one of the great things about the united states is lik
i think it's too clever by half i think there's got to be a simpler way to hand out the towel than to have 85 or i guess 100 different sub sub economies to this but i have to say i think it's a pretty cool idea and i'm i i think i if i was a startup jason and i could get 85 cheaper compute yeah it'd be hard to not look at that in the eye and go well i'm going to try it because if i could save you know that much of my total cloud bill
it's about four years old ... team of like five or six engineer people ... they are doxxed so it's not like they're anonymous like satoshi
this platform then allows you in a way to plug in your project as an individual with server capacity ... the goal would be it's cheaper faster or better or just cheaper
so bit tensor is the project tau is the coin the network instead of doing gumball math is doing here is a competitor to aws
shoots does exactly what you were describing so they're a decentralized network of compute for ai so if you want to run deep seek you want to run mistral yeah serverless here we go ... you just come here normally you'd go to aws right and you rent some instances and then you would load up your ai this actually you know the shoots will allow you to just go there click a button pay a little bit of tau and start running your instance and it's about 85 percent less than what it
they're doing many things at once so there's actually under the under the it's an incentivization network primarily used to incentivize the creation of great ai not only that but mostly that at the moment and beneath that are a hundred projects and each of them are mostly ai but not all of them are ai
yeah so i'm here in town for a crypto project called bit tensor uh they had their first big event now bit tensor is bitcoin meets ai and uh tau is the coin and there's 21 million tau coins only of which like 8 million a bit admitted so far but that's the exact same as bitcoin yes that is correct does it use the same open source project or do they just thought that would be like a clever thing to do they thought that the the bitcoin ethos was the right one to adopt so it draws very heavily it's v
the BitTensor blockchain records only the incentive that subnets essentially, essentially the incentive landscape, the current scoring and transactions within the BitTensor blockchain.
aligning with the principles of BitTensor, this was pre subnets having alpha tokens. So not having its own secondary token, not trying to extract value from BitTensor tau.
Hippius is the first and only BitTensor subnet that has its own blockchain.
What I found really interesting about the BitTensor project lawn is that instead of using the compute to solve cryptography problems to create this network that allowed for the storage of assets, this one allows you to take all of that work and put it towards something productive in the world. And at the same time, and BitTensor's been around for a while, at the same time, you know, it started to get some, you know, early true believers, the AI revolution happened. And then the need for compute
