It reminds me of Uber. Move fast. Who cares what the regulators say? Because we're going to provide a service that consumers love. ... And that is also the Uber story.
the market changed before Spotify, excuse me, was able to turn into an Amazon. So it's spent it's trying to shift into or continue to be a fulfillment company, which requires so much capital expenditures, and the market turned on them. So they're gonna have a really hard time.
he just says straight up, he got it wrong.
The question is then the question for Coinbase, will you have time? Will the market give you time to do so to clean up?
will Coinbase even have that chance, depending on how swiftly the SEC moves, which I don't have a lot of faith in Coinbase may not even be able to operate here in the US. And that would just be I mean, we're not talking about a pivot here, we're talking about an existential threat.
It reminds me of Uber. Move fast. Who cares what the regulators say? Because we're going to provide a service that consumers love. But here's the thing, the consumers love crypto right now. There's a lot of folks that have been burned that may not be behind Coinbase at this moment. But it feels like this sort of combative with the regulators, we're going to do what we want. They're also spending a ton of money on lobbying.
they started very cautious, you know, saying we're only going to have a certain amount of tokens, the ones that are tried and true. And then they started to lose to the competition. So they added a ton more. And that has gotten them in trouble.
And what Microsoft and Alphabet told us is that, you know what, they're pretty resilient. So collective sigh relief for now doesn't tell us what's going to happen for the rest of the year, however, and that is riskier, I'd say.
And what we got so far from Microsoft and Alphabet is not as bad as feared. Sometimes we say better than expected, but that's not really accurate in this case, because everyone was kind of expecting or maybe worried about a bloodbath, right? We've seen these stocks just crater this year, more than 20% percent. And those are the ones, the high quality names, the mega caps that are better off. And what Microsoft and Alphabet told us is that, you know what, they're pretty resilient. So collective s
apple starting small with a thousand dollars um so there's a right way of doing it
i think this is setting the tone for apple to become a full-fledged as you called it bank or at least offer financial full-fledged financial stack so maybe this is just the beginning but you're getting into lending and it's so notable that they're already working with goldman sachs and mastercard on their credit card offering but they're doing this themselves they created this wholly owned subsidiary and as you said molly they're going to be lending from their balance sheet from their massive ca
tesla one of the most successful companies of our generation in the world at the moment one of the biggest market caps has not spent any money on marketing or communications right elon musk has been able to work twitter and this public persona to build one of the greatest companies that we currently have is he applying that sort of same playbook to what he wants to get out of twitter um it feels like it is it going to backfire this time
should the twitter board accept something in the middle they probably don't have to because of the way elon musk went about this he's just so brash and he announced this and he said he didn't need to do due diligence
the fact that this is elon musk and it's twitter and it's such a big story we all focus on every little twist and turn but you know what also happened recently molly um toma bravo right the private equity firm that announced it had plans to acquire anna plan a certain price quietly adjusted that anna plan agreed to it but they're now getting a little bit of a discount so it's not just elon musk the markets are moving so quickly valuations are getting more and more attractive
i think that elon musk sees things that other people don't so um maybe he'll find something that was previously undiscoverable that could be good or bad if you believe he wants to get this deal done
i'm interested now that elon musk is going to have access to this data which by the way other companies have had access to this data not just twitter but it can sell this data for people and companies to sift through and pick out what they want is elon musk going to be able to find something that no one else has
let's remember that tesla one of the most successful companies of our generation in the world at the moment one of the biggest market caps has not spent any money on marketing or communications right elon musk has been able to work twitter and this public persona to build one of the greatest companies that we currently have
Coinbase is in a world of pain, right? We've seen that stock price decline.
I also kind of think that YouTube, Google gets a free pass, how much of that has to do with what we talked about at the very beginning of this conversation. Senator Pichai is the most calm, collected CEO. You can say boring, or I'll say it. They go to Congress. Everyone wants to jump on Jack Dorsey, Bezos, even Tim Cook. And, you know, you feel kind of bad, you know, taking that same tone with Senator Pichai, because he's such an intellectual, such a technologist that I just, do you think that's
We saw that with YouTube, people kind of freaked out last quarter because growth was slower.
there are some companies in this moment who are really going to rise to the occasion. They're going to be able to continue to invest for the long term. And while Alphabet will face its fair share of challenges, they're one of them.
I think that Dara is very good. I love a CEO who will come on TV when his stock is down like 20% shows a lot of great communicator.
but all you're talking about is a business model to book, you're not talking about a business model that's innovative or doing something disruptive.
I came here 2016 as Uber was imploding. Nobody would talk to me, right?
