Series D — funding glossary

Series D

A Series D is another late-stage round. Companies raise it to keep scaling, fund a major initiative or acquisition, or extend runway toward an IPO. Sometimes it signals extra fuel for a winner; sometimes it means an earlier plan needs more time.

Where in the journey
Late-stage, pre-exit.
What the money is for
Sustain growth, fund a large move, or bridge toward IPO/acquisition.
Common investors
Growth funds, private equity, crossover/public-market investors.
Watch out for
A “flat” or “down” round here can signal trouble; heavy dilution.
