Founded and run by Will Marshall, it is mentioned as a newly public company in the stock market. observed
No person- or entity-level identity check is on record for this company. A name match is not one.
The inclusion bar: two or more independent sourced evidence families. This profile is reachable but not in the ranked index. It is a statement about how much evidence we hold, and about nothing else.
We have not established fit. That is not a soft no and not a soft yes — it is unknown, and it is never counted as a qualified prospect.
↓ Scored on 0 of 3 components — funding_recency, adoption, developer had no computable metric.
The skeptic's read what this company has said, judged against what happened
Unproven ≠ false — it means the deadline or the evidence hasn't arrived. Nothing here is editorial: every count is a ledger row you can open on the Proof page.
No single number decides. Layers can disagree — that's the point. New to this? →
he also founded the O'Reilly alphatech Ventures group which um they seed investors and they've invested in almost 50 companies now including Four Square chartbeat which I'm an investor in 3dr Ro products Misfit Planet Labs beta brand just tons of amazing uh Investments there
oh your is your funer um so he I was about to say he makes these crazy bets no offense intended but I mean he he likes to do some of the stuff in your opinion yeah and amongst your peers are we going to find a signal in our lifetime in the next 30 40 50 years will we find a signal from an alien life from alien life yes or no percentage intelligent life or will we find alien life because those are two distinct things I think there's a very good chance that we will uh find uh life on other planets
you can go on to our website it's just planet.com it's kind of cool um yeah that cost you a million bucks and you can good domain yeah it's a pretty good domain we also have planet.org and you can sign up there to become a user of our data it's sort of in beta testing mode at the present time but you can sign up and and the idea is that there's so many applications of this data I mean we we've listed hundreds of thousands detecting fires you know helping agriculture you know there's there's just
in the Haiti situation they they they everyone was scrambling to take imagery afterwards but then they realized that the previous most recent satellite image was taken 5 years ago
we can sell our imagery um there's lots of commercial applications um I I mentioned a few um agriculture consumer mapping are people buying now people people are buying that imagery today
there's a huge business case there in principle but you have to be careful because the terrestrial communication costs are cheap whereas doing the Earth Imaging you can't really do that from the ground
the launch costs have stayed roughly the same um for the last 40 years um but what we're doing is radically changing how much capability you can put per unit kilogram in that rocket
we have our satellites are about a thousand of the mass of a typical satellite right so we've taken a you know three zeros of that mass and therefore you can just change the way the the the economics of it that way
our lifespan to be about 2 years
our satellites are typically 4 to 500 km so that's part of low earth orbit
by scanning the Earth every day you youut you will find every missing plane unless it goes straight into the water and then sinks
we think that there's a huge and expanding Market um basically no one's been able to get access to Earth Imaging it's being the province of big governments and big companies and by by making more of it uh we're serving a lot of other people as well
we are one of the first folks to be doing that so it's it's relatively new
we're launching this year um over 150 satellites it's more than all other satellite providers combined
by the end of this year we should have daily Imaging of the planet
we're seeing a lot of developing countries interested in our data because they just want to track what's going on in terms of buildings in all the urban areas they just want to understand and help agricultural yield in their country
governments are generally very supportive because they get to uh get information about what's going on in the world as well
we can tell crop yield which helps Farmers to improve their yield
we think it's much better to what our goal is to scan the planet and see these big macroscopic changes to help us to take care of the planet
we've launched 113 of these on 10 different launch vehicles
this is not super high resolution it's we're able to see a tree and a car but not see read a number plate or see a person
our mission image the whole Earth every single day basically to date satellite imagery has been taken every few years the satellite imagery you find online is 3 to 5 years old um by taking an IM snapshot of the whole Earth every single day we can see changes as they happen uh that's useful for a wide variety of use cases
we've actually now um launched over a hundred of these satellites it's the largest Fleet of Earth Imaging satellites in history by more than uh 10x and with these satellites as I said we our goal is to image every single point on the Earth's surface every day
the united states can build a hundred thousand gross tons of ships every year gross ton is this volumetric measure of ships so if you build you know a 200 foot ship that's different than an 800 foot ship but let's compare apples to apples a hundred thousand gross tons the chinese which you were referencing can build 23 million gross tons so they can outbuild the us 230 to one
the navy actually trusted us in this moment lives are on the line we're going to send this autonomous platform to go and rescue these folks this is not a patrol this is not maritime domain awareness this is the highest stakes of the highest things

funding.round.amount_usd 2014-02-25 artifact ↗ An evidence gap, not proof of falsity: Form D is not always required (foreign offerings, certain exemptions) or may not be filed yet.
Form D filings — the company's own authoritative record of a Reg D private raise, filed with the SEC. Primary-source evidence: not commentary, not inference. 6 filings, latest filed 2015-07-13. A Form D is filed after the sale, so the filing date is when the notice reached the SEC — not when the round closed. Where the issuer stated a first-sale date it is shown beside it, and a D/A amends an earlier offering rather than reporting a new one.
A first sale, a filing, an amendment and a public announcement are not the same event, and one date may not stand in for another. Where the latest financing date cannot be established from what we hold, this says unknown rather than substituting a date we do have.
The most recent filing is a D/A, amending an offering already filed. An amendment may report sales made since the original and does not date them; its first-sale date is not recorded belongs to the original offering. So the latest financing date is not established.
Realized federal award records for this company — a verifiable, dollar-denominated government signal. Recipient name matched with high confidence; figures are per-award totals from USAspending.gov.
Gray-market attention, not quality. 50+ HN mentions (peak 192 points). Claim-shaped headlines are rumors until corroborated — a Tier-3 factual claim carries no evidentiary weight on its own. Risk drivers: heavy gray-market attention · some SEC filings on record. ▲ 192 Planet Labs' open satellite feed 2026-09-09 ↗
