followers the more followers I have on a site like Twitter the better the product becomes is a way for me to reach my audience so if Twitter were to send out an email tomorrow that says I'm sorry Twitter's no longer free you're gonna have to start paying for it who's more likely to start paying someone with ten followers or 10,000 followers of course gonna be the person with 10,000 followers because they've stored all this value in the form of followers
when you open up your Twitter feed you find that okay maybe the first thing isn't very interesting and then maybe the second thing isn't very interesting but oh maybe the third or fourth tweet is super interesting and so what do you have to do to get more of this information reward what do you have to do just keep scrolling so this scrolling and scrolling is very similar to pulling on a slot machine searching and searching and never done searching for these variable rewards of the hunt
users always had plenty of motivation when they landed on this page no one came to that page by mistake ... everybody came to this page with plenty of motivation they heard about it from a friend they heard about her on Oprah they had tons of motivation when they came to this page or they wouldn't already be there
what Twitter figured out by reducing the cognitive clutter by making it easier for the user to figure out what the heck you want them to do they increase conversion more people signed up and they could start sending people through their four steps of the hook
for example Google and uber would not make the would not want to make their products more variable they're taking situations that are inherently veiled a variable searching for an answer has uncertainty at its core
