We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\nWe build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company. The platform’s name, rooted in the Greek word for citadel (or, fortress), reflects the design and purpose of our infrastructure-agnostic secure enclaves: protecting critical data. Some of the government and commercial workflows include: increased operational resiliency for mission-critical systems and functions; enabling organisations to more quickly and widely adopt emerging technologies while ensuring the integrity of their intellectual property; information flow during disaster response scenarios, and zero-trust / least-privilege environments for M&A, attorney-client privileged communications, etc. And we’ve only scratched the surface.
\nAt our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\nThe Role
\nAs an AI Harness Engineer at Valarian, you will own the experimental design, evaluation methodologies, and benchmark infrastructure for our AI models and autonomous agentic workloads. In an emerging domain with no standard playbook, you will serve as the bridge between rigorous data science, statistical validation, and production agent scaffolding.
\nYou will design robust evaluation datasets, architect calibrated LLM-as-a-judge pipelines, and build metrics that accurately capture multi-step agent performance under non-deterministic conditions. Your insights and error analyses will directly drive iterative improvements to our harness scaffolding, tool orchestration, and system safety guardrails.
\nWhat you’ll do:
\n\n- \n
Architect Evaluation Runtimes & Harnesses: Design and maintain scalable Python evaluation harnesses that measure task completion, trajectory quality, tool-use correctness, cost, latency, and variance across multi-step agentic systems.
\n \n- \n
Design Experiments & Validate Results: Apply rigorous statistical methods—including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, bootstrapping, and power analysis—to determine whether performance changes are true system improvements or stochastic noise.
\n \n- \n
Build & Calibrate LLM-as-a-Judge Pipelines: Develop automated judging systems validated against human ground truth. Measure alignment using agreement metrics (Cohen’s kappa, correlation, precision/recall) and systematically detect judge failure modes such as position bias, verbosity bias, self-preference, and prompt sensitivity.
\n \n- \n
Curate Benchmark Datasets & Rubrics: Define sampling strategies, detailed annotation guidelines, and scoring rubrics. Measure inter-annotator agreement and manage label noise to ensure benchmark integrity over time.
\n \n- \n
Deep Error & Trajectory Analysis: Conduct hands-on failure analysis on agent runs, cluster root causes into actionable error categories, and clearly communicate findings to both engineering teams and stakeholders.
\n \n- \n
Drive Harness Scaffolding Iteration: Translate evaluation results directly into architectural improvements across agent scaffolding, prompt design, tool execution loops, context window compaction, retries, and safety guardrails.
\n \n
\nWhat we are looking for:
\n\n- \n
Grounding in Statistics & Experimental Design: Demonstrated expertise in hypothesis testing, bootstrapping, power analysis, and statistical significance within probabilistic machine learning systems.
\n \n- \n
LLM-as-a-Judge Validation: Proven experience building, auditing, and validating LLM judge setups against human annotations, including tracking agreement metrics and mitigating judge biases.
\n \n- \n
Evaluation Dataset Engineering: Strong track record designing evaluation datasets, crafting precise scoring rubrics, managing label noise, and measuring inter-annotator agreement.
\n \n- \n
Evaluation of Non-Deterministic Multi-Step Systems: Deep comfort evaluating complex agent trajectories, tool execution sequences, latency, cost, and variance across repeated runs rather than relying solely on single-shot benchmarks.
\n \n- \n
Metric Design & Integrity: Exceptional judgment in defining metrics tied to real-world outcomes, with a keen eye for detecting benchmark gaming, target drift, or shortcut learning.
\n \n- \n
Rigor in Error Analysis: Ability to dissect complex execution logs, categorize failure modes, and synthesize clear, data-driven recommendations.
\n \n
\n\n- \n
Hands-On LLM Integration: Practical proficiency with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, structured outputs, function/tool calling, and retrieval systems in Python.
\n \n- \n
Agent Architecture Awareness: Clear understanding of planning loops, tool orchestration, memory management, and multi-agent coordination, including their trade-offs and common failure modes.
\n \n- \n
Harness & Scaffolding Contribution: Ability to write clean, maintainable Python code to iterate on harness components such as guardrails, retry logic, state handling, and context management.
\n \n
\nNice to have:
\n\n- \n
Experience with agent and evaluation frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, lm-evaluation-harness, Promptfoo, or Ragas).
\n \n- Exposure to running evaluation pipelines or agent workloads within secure, enclave, or Kubernetes environments.
\n

Valarian Technologies is a dual-use technology company building critical tools to safeguard the future in an era of evolving global security challenges. We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\n
\n
We build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company.
\n
\n
At our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\n
\nThe Role
\nWe are looking for a Senior Customer Deployment Engineer to lead the installation, upgrade, and operational delivery of ACRA in customer environments.
\n
\nYou will work directly with customers, onsite and remotely, to understand their requirements, prepare their infrastructure, install ACRA through our Onboarding Wizard, and guide deployments through validation and operational handover. You will also help maintain live deployments, deliver upgrades, and work with engineering to make unattended installation and upgrade workflows more reliable.
\n
\nThis role combines practical Kubernetes expertise with customer communication and delivery ownership. You should enjoy investigating technical problems, working alongside customer teams, and taking responsibility for getting a deployment working in the environment where it will actually be used.
\n
\nYou will work closely with Valarian’s infrastructure, platform, product, and engineering teams. Your experience in the field will help shape our installation tooling, documentation, and deployment workflows, making each deployment more repeatable and easier to operate.
\nSuccess means customers have a working platform they can confidently use and maintain, with clear operating procedures and a dependable relationship with Valarian.
\nWhat you’ll do:
\n\n- \n
Lead customer installations from initial technical discovery and readiness assessment through deployment, validation, and handover.
\n \n- \n
Gather high-level requirements, including intended workloads, infrastructure constraints, integrations, security requirements, availability expectations, and acceptance criteria.
\n \n- \n
Work with customer infrastructure and security teams to establish prerequisites across cluster capacity, networking, DNS, certificates, storage, identity, and access.
\n \n- \n
Install and configure ACRA using the Wizard and supported deployment workflows across cloud, on-premise, and customer-managed environments.
\n \n- \n
Act as the primary technical contact during delivery, build trusted customer relationships, and communicate progress, blockers, responsibilities, and next steps clearly.
\n \n- \n
Plan and execute ACRA upgrades, including compatibility checks, maintenance windows, backups, recovery procedures, and post-upgrade validation.
\n \n- \n
Help customers plan and carry out Kubernetes or OpenShift cluster upgrades, coordinating changes with the teams responsible for the underlying infrastructure.
\n \n- \n
Help configure, test, and improve supported unattended installation and upgrade workflows, including health checks, failure detection, and recovery.
\n \n- \n
Troubleshoot installation and live deployment issues across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, storage, and application dependencies; work with engineering to resolve product defects.
\n \n- \n
Validate agreed customer workflows and operational readiness before completing deployment or upgrade handover.
\n \n- \n
Maintain deployment records, installation guides, and runbooks; train customer operators and provide agreed support after go-live.
\n \n- \n
Turn recurring deployment problems and customer feedback into clear improvements to ACRA, the Onboarding Wizard, automation, and documentation.
\n \n
\nWhat we are looking for:
\n\n- \n
Strong hands-on experience deploying, troubleshooting, and operating production software on Kubernetes.
\n \n- \n
Practical Linux knowledge and a good understanding of networking, DNS, TLS, persistent storage, containers, and access controls.
\n \n- \n
Experience delivering production upgrades and handling failed changes, including backup, recovery, and service validation.
\n \n- \n
Familiarity with Helm, GitOps, and infrastructure or deployment automation.
\n \n- \n
Experience working directly with customers or external technical stakeholders, gathering requirements and managing delivery expectations.
\n \n- \n
Clear communication skills: you can explain an issue to an infrastructure engineer and give a concise, useful update to a customer stakeholder.
\n \n- \n
Strong operational judgement: you know when to proceed, investigate further, pause a change, or escalate.
\n \n- \n
Ability to take ownership of a deployment while working effectively with customer teams and engineering specialists.
\n \n- \n
Ability to write useful scripts or small tools in Bash, Python, or a similar language.
\n \n- \n
Willingness to work onsite with customers, travel as required, and support agreed maintenance windows.
\n \n
\n
\nYour background could be in field engineering, professional services, technical implementation, infrastructure engineering, SRE, or technical support with substantial deployment responsibility. We care about evidence of successful delivery and sound judgement.
\nNice to have
\n\n- \n
Experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes in on-premise, bare-metal, restricted, or air-gapped environments.
\n \n- \n
Experience delivering software in regulated, sovereign, government, defence, or other security-critical settings.
\n \n- \n
Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, Argo CD, or comparable infrastructure and configuration tools.
\n \n- \n
Experience with monitoring, secrets management, distributed storage, or Kubernetes networking.
\n \n- \n
Experience improving installation tooling, writing operational documentation, or delivering customer training.
\n \n
\n
\n\n

Valarian Technologies is a dual-use technology company building critical tools to safeguard the future in an era of evolving global security challenges. We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\n
\n
We build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company.
\n
\n
At our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\n
\n
\n\n\n
We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own and evolve the foundational infrastructure layer behind ACRA.
\n
This is a deep infrastructure role. You will work across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, storage, service-to-service communication, observability, security boundaries, and production operations. You will be responsible for the systems that everything else depends on: clusters, networks, storage layers, ingress and egress paths, runtime infrastructure, deployment foundations, and operational reliability.
\n
Infrastructure is part of the product at Valarian. ACRA only works if the underlying infrastructure is secure, observable, debuggable, resilient, and able to run across cloud, on-premise, bare-metal, sovereign, air-gapped, and customer-managed environments.
\n
We are looking for someone with strong judgement and real production experience. This role values depth, operational correctness, and careful decision-making. You should be comfortable going deep into complex operational problems, understanding failure modes, debugging under pressure, and improving the reliability of the whole platform.
\n
You should be comfortable operating close to the metal: debugging Kubernetes, understanding networking behaviour, reasoning about distributed storage, improving observability, and helping define the infrastructure patterns that ACRA will rely on as it scales.
\n
This is not a generic DevOps support role, cloud administration role, or internal IT role. You will be a critical engineer in the team responsible for the infrastructure foundations of a high-trust platform.
\n
\n\n
\n
What you’ll do:
\n
\n
\n- \n
Design, build, operate, and improve Kubernetes-based infrastructure for ACRA.
\n \n- \n
Own core infrastructure plumbing across networking, storage, workload scheduling, service communication, ingress, egress, DNS, certificates, and cluster-level security.
\n \n- \n
Operate and debug production Kubernetes environments across GCP, on-premise, bare-metal, sovereign cloud, air-gapped, and customer-managed deployments.
\n \n- \n
Work on multi-cluster Kubernetes environments, cluster networking, network policy, service mesh, and secure service-to-service communication.
\n \n- \n
Operate and evolve distributed storage systems, including storage classes, CSI drivers, capacity planning, replication, recovery, and failure handling.
\n \n- \n
Work with infrastructure technologies such as Kubernetes, Linux, Cilium, eBPF, Istio, Rook Ceph, Terraform, Argo CD, GitOps, Helm, and related CNCF tooling.
\n \n- \n
Build infrastructure automation that improves repeatability, reliability, and operational safety.
\n \n- \n
Improve observability across infrastructure layers, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, and operational runbooks.
\n \n- \n
Investigate and resolve complex production issues across networking, storage, Kubernetes, Linux, and application infrastructure.
\n \n- \n
Contribute to incident response, root-cause analysis, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and production readiness.
\n \n- \n
Define infrastructure standards, operational boundaries, security controls, and deployment patterns across the platform.
\n \n- \n
Work closely with engineering teams to make services easier to deploy, operate, monitor, and debug.
\n \n- \n
Contribute to the long-term technical direction of the DevOps department and the infrastructure foundations of ACRA.
\n \n
\n
\n
What we are looking for:
\n
\n
\n
\n- \n
Strong experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or production systems engineering.
\n \n- \n
Deep hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production.
\n \n- \n
Strong understanding of Linux systems, containers, networking, storage, and distributed infrastructure.
\n \n- \n
Strong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, routing, load balancing, ingress, egress, network policy, and service discovery.
\n \n- \n
Experience debugging difficult infrastructure issues across clusters, nodes, pods, networks, storage, and workloads.
\n \n- \n

Valarian Technologies is a dual-use technology company building critical tools to safeguard the future in an era of evolving global security challenges. We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\n
\n
We build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company.
\n
\n \n- \n
Experience with Kubernetes networking, CNI, service mesh, network policy, or secure service-to-service communication.
\n \n- \n
Experience or strong working knowledge in at least one deep infrastructure area such as Kubernetes networking, distributed storage, Linux systems, bare-metal infrastructure, multi-cluster operations, or production incident response.
\n \n- \n
Experience with infrastructure as code and GitOps workflows, especially Terraform, Argo CD, Helm, Kustomize, or similar tooling.

At our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\n
\n
The Role
You will lead the operational, delivery, and governance execution for Valarian’s platform engineering team, acting as the primary operational partner to the Head of Engineering. This role sits at the intersection of technical execution, Product and platform security for ACRA, our complex security-focused Kubernetes platform.
\n
You will own the operational lifecycle of external engineering dependencies end to end: from scoping, scheduling, and managing third-party penetration testing to overseeing contractor budgets, statement of work (SOW) execution, and project billing. You will keep engineering operations financially sorted, compliant, and friction-free, ensuring that external technical deliverables align seamlessly with internal platform engineering cycles.
You will serve as the crucial interface between engineering leadership and external partners. You will translate complex security, infrastructure, and operational requirements into actionable engineering priorities, triaging pentest findings, managing vulnerability remediation workflows with engineers, and reporting clear status, risk, and spend metrics directly to the Head of Engineering.
\nThis is not a role for someone who only wants to manage spreadsheets or pass messages. We are looking for someone who understands the technical product vision, challenges assumptions, and turns complex operational challenges into smooth, reliable systems.
\nAs Valarian grows, this role offers a clear path to increasing operational ownership and strategic influence. We are looking for strong operational judgement, curiosity, ownership, technical fluency, and the ability to bring order to complex environments.
What you’ll do:
\n
\n- Own the Platform Security & Trust Roadmap: Define and prioritize the product capabilities, compliance requirements, and technical enhancements needed to maintain ACRA’s zero-trust security architecture and enterprise readiness.
\n- Define Technical Requirements & Specifications: Translate pentest findings, compliance mandates (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2), and technical specs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and API contracts for engineering.
\n- Lead Backlog Grooming & Vulnerability Prioritization: Drive product discovery and backlog refinement with engineering, prioritizing vulnerability remediations alongside new feature delivery based on risk, severity, and customer SLAs.
\n- Orchestrate External Security Engagements: Scope and run external penetration tests and third-party security audits as structured product validation cycles, tracking findings through to re-testing and delivery.
\n- Manage External Technical Dependencies: Align third-party integrations, vendor deliverables, and partner APIs with core platform release cycles to ensure unblocked delivery.
\n- Balance Feature Velocity against Technical Risk: Partner with engineering, product, and leadership to evaluate trade-offs between delivery speed, engineering effort, financial costs, and platform security boundaries.
\n- Track Security & Product Metrics: Monitor key product health indicators—including time-to-remediation, security posture compliance, vendor SLA performance, and feature delivery predictability.
\n- Drive Product-Led Security Value: Act as a product owner in a fast-paced startup, ensuring platform security, data sovereignty, and auditability serve as key competitive differentiators for Valarian.
\n
\n
\n
Nice to have:
\n\n
\n- Experience in secure or regulated environments, such as defence, government, fintech, critical infrastructure, or sovereign cloud.
\n- Understanding of zero-trust architecture, identity-aware systems, policy enforcement, or workload isolation concepts.
\n- Experience managing technical delivery in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
\n
\n
Again: these are not requirements. They are areas you may get to work with and go deeper into at Valarian.
