Valarian Technologies is a dual-use technology company building critical tools to safeguard the future in an era of evolving global security challenges. We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\nWe build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company. The platform’s name, rooted in the Greek word for citadel (or, fortress), reflects the design and purpose of our infrastructure-agnostic secure enclaves: protecting critical data. Some of the government and commercial workflows include: increased operational resiliency for mission-critical systems and functions; enabling organisations to more quickly and widely adopt emerging technologies while ensuring the integrity of their intellectual property; information flow during disaster response scenarios, and zero-trust / least-privilege environments for M&A, attorney-client privileged communications, etc. And we’ve only scratched the surface.
\nAt our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\nThe Role\nAs an AI Harness Engineer at Valarian, you will own the experimental design, evaluation methodologies, and benchmark infrastructure for our AI models and autonomous agentic workloads. In an emerging domain with no standard playbook, you will serve as the bridge between rigorous data science, statistical validation, and production agent scaffolding.
\nYou will design robust evaluation datasets, architect calibrated LLM-as-a-judge pipelines, and build metrics that accurately capture multi-step agent performance under non-deterministic conditions. Your insights and error analyses will directly drive iterative improvements to our harness scaffolding, tool orchestration, and system safety guardrails.
\nWhat you’ll do:\nArchitect Evaluation Runtimes & Harnesses: Design and maintain scalable Python evaluation harnesses that measure task completion, trajectory quality, tool-use correctness, cost, latency, and variance across multi-step agentic systems.
\nDesign Experiments & Validate Results: Apply rigorous statistical methods—including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, bootstrapping, and power analysis—to determine whether performance changes are true system improvements or stochastic noise.
\nBuild & Calibrate LLM-as-a-Judge Pipelines: Develop automated judging systems validated against human ground truth. Measure alignment using agreement metrics (Cohen’s kappa, correlation, precision/recall) and systematically detect judge failure modes such as position bias, verbosity bias, self-preference, and prompt sensitivity.
\nCurate Benchmark Datasets & Rubrics: Define sampling strategies, detailed annotation guidelines, and scoring rubrics. Measure inter-annotator agreement and manage label noise to ensure benchmark integrity over time.
\nDeep Error & Trajectory Analysis: Conduct hands-on failure analysis on agent runs, cluster root causes into actionable error categories, and clearly communicate findings to both engineering teams and stakeholders.
\nDrive Harness Scaffolding Iteration: Translate evaluation results directly into architectural improvements across agent scaffolding, prompt design, tool execution loops, context window compaction, retries, and safety guardrails.
\nWhat we are looking for: \nGrounding in Statistics & Experimental Design: Demonstrated expertise in hypothesis testing, bootstrapping, power analysis, and statistical significance within probabilistic machine learning systems.
\nLLM-as-a-Judge Validation: Proven experience building, auditing, and validating LLM judge setups against human annotations, including tracking agreement metrics and mitigating judge biases.
\nEvaluation Dataset Engineering: Strong track record designing evaluation datasets, crafting precise scoring rubrics, managing label noise, and measuring inter-annotator agreement.
\nEvaluation of Non-Deterministic Multi-Step Systems: Deep comfort evaluating complex agent trajectories, tool execution sequences, latency, cost, and variance across repeated runs rather than relying solely on single-shot benchmarks.
\nMetric Design & Integrity: Exceptional judgment in defining metrics tied to real-world outcomes, with a keen eye for detecting benchmark gaming, target drift, or shortcut learning.
\nRigor in Error Analysis: Ability to dissect complex execution logs, categorize failure modes, and synthesize clear, data-driven recommendations.
\nHands-On LLM Integration: Practical proficiency with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, structured outputs, function/tool calling, and retrieval systems in Python.
\nAgent Architecture Awareness: Clear understanding of planning loops, tool orchestration, memory management, and multi-agent coordination, including their trade-offs and common failure modes.
\nHarness & Scaffolding Contribution: Ability to write clean, maintainable Python code to iterate on harness components such as guardrails, retry logic, state handling, and context management.
\nNice to have:\nExperience with agent and evaluation frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, lm-evaluation-harness, Promptfoo, or Ragas).

\nThe Role
\n\n
We are looking for a Platform Engineer to help build the internal platform capabilities that allow our engineering teams to move quickly without compromising security, reliability, or operational control.
\nThis role is more software and product-oriented than a traditional infrastructure role. You will work closely with backend engineers, infrastructure engineers, product teams, and leadership to design and build the tooling, workflows, integrations, and platform primitives that make ACRA easier to develop, deploy, operate, and extend.
\nYou will treat the platform as a product. Your users are our engineers. Your goal is to make the safe, reliable, and repeatable path the easiest path: through clean abstractions, useful automation, golden paths, reusable templates, deployment workflows, observability patterns, and developer-facing tooling.
\nWe are looking for someone hands-on, curious, and comfortable working across a broad set of DevOps, platform, and CNCF tools. You should have a software engineering mindset and care about maintainability, automation, user experience, reliability, and long-term platform design, not just scripts and infrastructure tasks.
\nYou should be able to take ownership of defined areas, move quickly, work well with engineers across the stack, and turn ambiguous platform needs into useful, reliable systems.
\nThis is not an internal IT role, cloud administration role, or generic DevOps support role. You will help build the platform as a product.
\nWhat you’ll do:
\nBuild and improve the internal platform capabilities used by both engineering teams and customers across ACRA.
\nDesign and implement tooling, automation, workflows, and integrations that improve developer velocity and operational consistency.
\nWork closely with backend engineers to make services easier to build, test, deploy, observe, secure, and operate.
\nBuild platform primitives for application lifecycle management, environment provisioning, deployment automation, configuration, secrets, observability, and controlled execution.
\nBuild and improve golden paths, reusable templates, and self-service workflows for engineering teams.
\nWork with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Argo CD, GitOps, GitHub Actions, Helm, Kustomize, container registries, secrets management, and CNCF tooling.
\nWrite code and automation in languages such as Go, Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
\nImprove CI/CD pipelines, release workflows, deployment safety, rollback strategies, and environment management.
\nIntegrate platform tools into coherent workflows rather than disconnected infrastructure pieces.
\nEvaluate, introduce, and operationalise CNCF tools where they improve the platform.
\nBuild systems that work across GCP, on-premise, bare-metal, sovereign cloud, air-gapped, and customer-managed environments.
\nContribute to observability, alerting, logging, tracing, dashboards, and production debugging workflows.
\nDefine platform standards, golden paths, reusable templates, and operational patterns.
\nWork with infrastructure engineers on the boundaries between platform tooling and core infrastructure.
\nTake ownership of defined projects and grow into broader technical responsibility over time.
\n\n
What we are looking for:
\nExperience in platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, backend engineering, SRE, or developer tooling.
\nStrong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and modern deployment workflows.
\nComfortable writing production-quality automation or tooling in at least one language such as Go, Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
\nFamiliarity with infrastructure as code and GitOps workflows, especially Terraform, Argo CD, Helm, Kustomize, or similar tools.
\nExperience working with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions or similar tooling.
\nGood understanding of how applications are built, containerised, deployed, configured, monitored, and operated.
\nStrong system design fundamentals, especially around reliability, scalability, observability, failure handling, and maintainability.
\nProduct-minded approach to platform engineering. You care about why the platform is being built, not just what needs to be implemented.
\nEvidence of building useful tools, automation, deployment systems, reusable templates, self-service workflows, or platform capabilities for other engineers.
\nComfortable working with backend engineers and understanding application-level requirements.
\nAble to move quickly while still building systems that are understandable, maintainable, and safe.
\nSelf-driven, curious, and comfortable taking ownership of defined areas of work.
\nComfortable working in a startup environment with changing priorities and broad technical exposure.
\nStrong communication skills. You can work across infrastructure, backend, product, and leadership without adding unnecessary process or noise.
\n\n
Nice to have:
\nExperience building internal developer platforms, paved roads, golden paths, or platform-as-a-product capabilities.
\nExperience working in startups, product engineering teams, infrastructure teams, or platform teams with broad ownership.
\nExperience with GCP, on-premise, bare-metal, air-gapped, or restricted deployment environments.
\nExperience with service mesh, network policy, ingress and egress control, or secure service-to-service communication.
\nFamiliarity with secrets management tools such as Vault, OpenBao, SOPS, Sealed Secrets, External Secrets, or cloud-native secret managers.
\nFamiliarity with supply-chain security concepts such as image signing, vulnerability scanning, SBOMs, artefact verification, admission control, or policy-as-code.
\nExperience with CNCF tools such as cert-manager, External Secrets, OPA, Kyverno, Gatekeeper, Crossplane, Backstage, Argo Workflows, Flux, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, Istio, Cilium, or Envoy.
\nExperience with backend engineering, APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, or Go services.
\nExperience contributing to systems where auditability, traceability, and operational evidence are important.
\nExperience with secure or regulated environments, such as defence, government, fintech, healthcare, critical infrastructure, sovereign cloud, or customer-managed deployments.
\n\n

\nThe Role\nAs a Release Engineer at Valarian, you will own the delivery pipelines and release lifecycle for Acra—ensuring our hardened platform can be deployed reliably, predictably, and securely across cloud-native, on-premise, and strictly air-gapped environments.
\nReleasing software at Valarian is not a typical SaaS continuous deployment pipeline. Because Acra operates as an enclave citadel in high-consequence environments (defense, government, and highly regulated enterprise), our releases must meet strict cryptographic verification, zero-trust integrity, and reproducible build standards.
\nYou will build and maintain the secure build systems, artifacts, release tooling, and deployment automation that allow engineering teams to ship high-velocity code without compromising security, compliance, or operational resiliency.
\nWhat you’ll do:\nOwn the Release Lifecycle: Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines and release engineering tooling for the Acra platform stack across multiple environments (multi-cloud, hybrid, on-prem, and air-gapped).
\nArchitect Air-Gapped & Offline Packaging: Design reproducible, self-contained release artifacts (Helm charts, container images, binary bundles) capable of deploying seamlessly into environments with zero internet connectivity.
\nEnforce Software Supply Chain Security: Implement cryptographic signing (e.g., Sigstore/Cosign, SLSA provenance), Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation, and automated vulnerability gating across all build pipelines.
\nAutomate Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Maintain release-side IaC and GitOps delivery frameworks (ArgoCD, Flux, Terraform) to ensure target environments maintain consistent posture and deterministic updates.
\nStreamline Developer Velocity & Reliability: Partner closely with platform, security, and application engineering teams to standardize versioning, branching strategies, and automated testing feedback loops.
\nDrive Release Readiness & Auditability: Ensure every Acra platform release produces immutable audit trails, change logs, and evidence artifacts required for government and commercial compliance standards.
\nWhat we are looking for: \n4+ years of professional experience in Release Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or SRE, with a strong focus on secure software delivery pipelines.
\nDeep Cloud-Native & Kubernetes Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes orchestration, Helm, container registries, and cloud-native infrastructure automation.
\nAir-Gapped / Heterogeneous Deployment Experience: Demonstrated experience packaging and releasing software for complex, non-SaaS deployment environments (on-premise, edge, or air-gapped systems).
\nSupply Chain Security Fluency: Solid understanding of build integrity concepts, artifact signing, provenance tracking, vulnerability scanning, and SBOM standards.
\nCI/CD & GitOps Mastery: Proven experience designing enterprise pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Tekton, ArgoCD) with robust testing, canary/blue-green strategies, and rollback mechanisms.
\nStrong Scripting/Coding Skills: Proficiency in Go, Python, Bash, or Rust for building custom release automation tools and CLI utility workflows.
\nNice to have:\nPrior experience working in dual-use, Defense, Government, Cyber Security, or Regulated Enterprise environments.
\nSC or DV clearance eligibility in the UK.
\nExperience with cryptographic key management (Vault, KMS) and code-signing infrastructure.
\nFamiliarity with zero-trust networking tools and Kubernetes security operators (Cilium, Istio, Kyverno, SPIRE).

At our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\nThe Role
\n\n
We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own and evolve the foundational infrastructure layer behind ACRA.
\nThis is a deep infrastructure role. You will work across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, storage, service-to-service communication, observability, security boundaries, and production operations. You will be responsible for the systems that everything else depends on: clusters, networks, storage layers, ingress and egress paths, runtime infrastructure, deployment foundations, and operational reliability.
\nInfrastructure is part of the product at Valarian. ACRA only works if the underlying infrastructure is secure, observable, debuggable, resilient, and able to run across cloud, on-premise, bare-metal, sovereign, air-gapped, and customer-managed environments.
\nWe are looking for someone with strong judgement and real production experience. This role values depth, operational correctness, and careful decision-making. You should be comfortable going deep into complex operational problems, understanding failure modes, debugging under pressure, and improving the reliability of the whole platform.
\nYou should be comfortable operating close to the metal: debugging Kubernetes, understanding networking behaviour, reasoning about distributed storage, improving observability, and helping define the infrastructure patterns that ACRA will rely on as it scales.
\nThis is not a generic DevOps support role, cloud administration role, or internal IT role. You will be a critical engineer in the team responsible for the infrastructure foundations of a high-trust platform.
\n\n
What you’ll do:
\nDesign, build, operate, and improve Kubernetes-based infrastructure for ACRA.
\nOwn core infrastructure plumbing across networking, storage, workload scheduling, service communication, ingress, egress, DNS, certificates, and cluster-level security.
\nOperate and debug production Kubernetes environments across GCP, on-premise, bare-metal, sovereign cloud, air-gapped, and customer-managed deployments.
\nWork on multi-cluster Kubernetes environments, cluster networking, network policy, service mesh, and secure service-to-service communication.
\nOperate and evolve distributed storage systems, including storage classes, CSI drivers, capacity planning, replication, recovery, and failure handling.
\nWork with infrastructure technologies such as Kubernetes, Linux, Cilium, eBPF, Istio, Rook Ceph, Terraform, Argo CD, GitOps, Helm, and related CNCF tooling.
\nBuild infrastructure automation that improves repeatability, reliability, and operational safety.
\nImprove observability across infrastructure layers, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, and operational runbooks.
\nInvestigate and resolve complex production issues across networking, storage, Kubernetes, Linux, and application infrastructure.
\nContribute to incident response, root-cause analysis, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and production readiness.
\nDefine infrastructure standards, operational boundaries, security controls, and deployment patterns across the platform.
\nWork closely with engineering teams to make services easier to deploy, operate, monitor, and debug.
\nContribute to the long-term technical direction of the DevOps department and the infrastructure foundations of ACRA.
\nWhat we are looking for:
\n\n
Strong experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or production systems engineering.
\nDeep hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production.
\nStrong understanding of Linux systems, containers, networking, storage, and distributed infrastructure.
\nStrong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, routing, load balancing, ingress, egress, network policy, and service discovery.
\nExperience debugging difficult infrastructure issues across clusters, nodes, pods, networks, storage, and workloads.
\nExperience with Kubernetes networking, CNI, service mesh, network policy, or secure service-to-service communication.
\nExperience or strong working knowledge in at least one deep infrastructure area such as Kubernetes networking, distributed storage, Linux systems, bare-metal infrastructure, multi-cluster operations, or production incident response.
\nExperience with infrastructure as code and GitOps workflows, especially Terraform, Argo CD, Helm, Kustomize, or similar tooling.
\nExperience building reliable infrastructure for production environments where uptime, security, and operational clarity matter.
\nComfortable working across cloud, on-premise, bare-metal, restricted, or customer-managed environments.
\nStrong operational judgement, especially around reliability, resilience, failure domains, and production risk.
\nStrong ownership mindset. You can take responsibility for critical systems and improve them over time.
\nClear communication skills. You can explain complex infrastructure problems to engineering and leadership without adding noise.
\nComfortable working in a startup environment with ambiguity, changing priorities, and broad technical responsibility.
\n\n
Experience with distributed storage systems, especially Rook Ceph or Ceph.
\nExperience with Cilium, eBPF, cluster mesh, Istio, Envoy, or similar networking and service mesh technologies.
\nExperience with multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
\nExperience operating Kubernetes or OpenShift outside simple managed-cloud environments, including bare-metal, VMware, sovereign, air-gapped, regulated, or customer-managed deployments.
\nExperience operating infrastructure in secure, regulated, sovereign, air-gapped, defence, government, fintech, healthcare, critical infrastructure, or customer-managed environments.
\nExperience with zero-trust architecture, workload isolation, identity-aware networking, policy enforcement, or runtime security.
\nExperience with secrets management tools such as Vault, OpenBao, SOPS, Sealed Secrets, External Secrets, or cloud-native secret managers.
\nExperience with observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, ELK, Dynatrace, or similar tooling.
\nExperience with supply-chain security, including image signing, vulnerability scanning, SBOMs, artefact verification, admission control, or policy-as-code.
\nExperience designing infrastructure where auditability, traceability, recoverability, and operational evidence are first-class requirements.

Our benefits are designed to ensure our employees feel taken care of and are proud to be a part of the Valarian team. We are committed to consistently enhancing our benefit package, taking into account the overall well-being and needs of our teammates. Here are the key benefits accessible to all employees at Valarian Technologies:
\nEquity – because you have the right to own what you’re building
\nA competitive salary – because we value your unique skills
\nEmployer pension contributions – because you deserve a secure future
\nHybrid work setup – because everyone has different needs
\nRewarding company retreats and meetups that respect your work/life balance – because we love getting to know each other!
\nOur culture is built on inclusivity, compassion and flexibility – we want everyone to be empowered to achieve their goals at Valarian.
\n\n
The work we do is vital, but so are the connections that make it happen. We thrive on the shared energy, spontaneous conversations, and mutual trust built when we spend time together. We operate on a hybrid model, gathering in our London office 3 days a week to support one another and collaborate.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.
Valarian Technologies is a dual-use technology company building critical tools to safeguard the future in an era of evolving global security challenges. We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\n\n
We build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company.
\n\n
At our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\nThe Role
\n\n
You will design, build, and operate backend and platform services for ACRA, a complex security-focused Kubernetes platform that needs to be reliable, observable, scalable, and secure from the start.
\nYou will work primarily in Go, building microservices, APIs, internal platform services, and event-driven systems. You will own services end to end: from system design and implementation through to containerisation, deployment, monitoring, debugging, and production operations.
\nYou will help shape the infrastructure and delivery foundations around the platform, including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, container registries, secrets management, deployment automation, and Argo-based delivery flows.
\nYou will contribute to core platform primitives such as identity-aware service communication, lifecycle orchestration, policy-driven deployment, auditability, observability, and controlled application execution. ACRA’s architecture separates the control plane, platform enforcement layer, and isolated execution environments, so this role requires someone who can reason clearly about trust boundaries, failure domains, and operational responsibility.
\nThis is not a role for someone who only wants to take tickets. We are looking for someone who understands the product vision, challenges assumptions, proposes better designs, and helps translate ambiguous requirements into robust technical systems.
\nAs ACRA grows, this role offers a clear path to increasing technical ownership and influence. You will not just build services and move on; you will help maintain, evolve, and scale the systems you own over time. You will also help raise the bar for how we design, review, deploy, operate, and learn as an engineering team.
\nYou do not need to have worked with every tool in our stack before. We are looking for strong engineering judgement, curiosity, ownership, and the ability to build reliable systems in complex environments.
\nWhat you’ll do:
\nBuild and own backend services, APIs, microservices, and platform components in Go.
\nOwn services from system design through implementation, deployment, observability, and production operations.
\nDesign event-driven, scalable, observable, and resilient systems.
\nBuild and improve Docker images, Kubernetes workloads, CI/CD pipelines, and Argo/GitOps workflows.
\nWork with container registries, secrets, secure configuration, and deployment automation.
\nContribute to platform architecture, system design, security boundaries, and operational models.
\nHelp build platform capabilities such as workload isolation, policy enforcement, auditability, and identity-aware communication.
\nWork closely with product, leadership, and engineering to turn ambiguous requirements into reliable technical solutions.
\nMake pragmatic technical trade-offs and explain them clearly.
\nImprove monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and production debugging.
\nRaise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and operational improvements.
\nOperate independently in a startup environment with strong ownership and product thinking.
\nWhat we are looking for:
\nSenior backend engineering experience, ideally with hands-on Go experience.
\nExperience owning production services, not just building features.
\nExperience building APIs, backend services, microservices, or distributed systems.
\nStrong experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
\nFamiliarity with GitOps, Argo, container registries, secrets, and secure deployment workflows.
\nStrong system design fundamentals, especially around reliability, scalability, observability, and failure handling.
\nAbility to reason about security boundaries, operational risk, and production failure modes.
\nExperience debugging issues across applications, services, and infrastructure.
\nComfort working from ambiguous requirements and shaping the technical approach.
\nProduct-minded engineering judgement: you care about why the platform is being built, not just what needs to be implemented.
\nA self-driven, ownership-oriented way of working.
\nComfortable giving and receiving feedback, reviewing designs, and helping improve team standards.
\nWillingness to work across backend, platform, infrastructure, and DevOps areas.
\nThe most important thing is not that you have done everything on this list before. It is that you bring strong engineering judgement, ownership, curiosity, and the determination to build excellent systems.
\nNice to have
\nSecure or regulated environments, such as defence, government, fintech, healthcare, critical infrastructure, or sovereign cloud.
\nZero-trust architecture, identity-aware systems, policy enforcement, or workload isolation.
\nService mesh, network policy, ingress/egress control, or secure service-to-service communication.
\nObservability tooling, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and incident response.
\nSupply-chain security concepts such as image signing, vulnerability scanning, SBOMs, artifact verification, or admission control.
\nSecrets management tools such as Vault, SOPS, Sealed Secrets, External Secrets, or cloud-native secret managers.
\nSystems where auditability, traceability, and operational evidence are first-class requirements.
\nStartup, platform, infrastructure, or product engineering environments with broad ownership.
\nAgain: these are not requirements. They are areas you may get to work with and go deeper into here.

\nThe Role
\n\n
In this role, you will help build and operate the backend and platform services behind ACRA: our secure Kubernetes platform for controlled compute, data governance, and AI-driven security operations.
\nYou will work mainly in Go, building services across backend engineering, Kubernetes, platform infrastructure, and security. This includes systems designed for reliability, scale, and security from the start, including how AI can help define, enforce, and reason about security controls.
\nYou will join a focused engineering team that values ownership, direct feedback, and support. You will start with clear areas of work, then take on more autonomy over services and platform direction as you build context.
\nThis is a strong fit for someone who wants to become excellent across backend, platform, Kubernetes, and security, and help build a serious security platform from an early stage.
\nWhat you’ll do:
\nAs part of the team, you will:
\nDevelop backend services, APIs, and platform components using Go.
\nOwn services from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
\nWork with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitOps, and secrets management.
\nBuild platform features for workload isolation, policy enforcement, audit logging, and identity-aware communication.
\nDesign event-driven distributed systems for resilience and scalability.
\nImprove metrics, logging, tracing, and incident response.
\nWork with engineering and product teams to turn requirements into technical solutions.
\nOwn specific platform areas and contribute independently.
\nImprove how the team reviews code, deploys changes, and learns from incidents.
\nBackend engineering experience, with some exposure to Go.
\nExperience building APIs, backend services, or microservices.
\nExperience working with Docker and containers.
\nExperience deploying to, developing on, or building with Kubernetes.
\nUnderstanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
\nFamiliarity with GitOps, Argo, container registries, secrets, or deployment security.
\nUnderstanding of event-driven architecture, asynchronous workflows, or distributed systems.
\nSystem design knowledge around reliability, scalability, observability, and failure handling.
\nAbility to debug issues across applications, services, and infrastructure.
\nInterest in why the platform is being built, not just what needs to be implemented.
\nOwnership, curiosity, and ability to work independently.
\nWillingness to learn across backend, platform, infrastructure, and DevOps.
\nNice to have:
\nSecurity, regulated, or high-trust environments such as defence, government, fintech, healthcare, critical infrastructure, or sovereign cloud.
\nKubernetes security areas such as zero trust, workload isolation, identity-aware systems, network policy, service mesh, or policy enforcement.
\nPlatform security practices such as secrets management, supply-chain security, admission control, auditability, and operational evidence.
\nObservability and operations, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, incident response, and debugging production systems.
\nExperience in startup, platform, infrastructure, or product engineering environments with broad ownership.
\nYou do not need to have worked with all of these. They are areas you may learn and build with us.

\n\n

\nValarian Technologies is a dual-use technology company building critical tools to safeguard the future in an era of evolving global security challenges. We're rethinking security beyond traditional military domains, addressing asymmetric threats that impact our technological advantage, economic strength, and democratic institutions.
\n\n
We build Acra – the platform foundation for everything we do as a dual-use technology company.
\n\n
At our core, we're driven by a shared mission and a belief in making a tangible impact on our world. Whether you join our London HQ or the wider global organisation, you’ll be a part of collaborative, high-performing teams, creating cutting-edge software, platforms, and infrastructure.
\nThe Role
\nAs a Solutions Engineer, you will deploy, extend, and integrate our secure Kubernetes platform (ACRA) into real-world workflows. You aren't just writing backend services in Go—you are partnering directly with end-users to understand their operational constraints, adapting our containerized workloads to their infrastructure, and feeding crucial feedback back into the core platform team.
\nYou will write production Go, build React frontend components, configure microservices, and orchestrate Kubernetes workloads while collaborating across frontend, core backend, infrastructure, and AI teams to deliver client outcomes.
\nWhat you’ll do:
\nWhat we are looking for:
\nGo & Backend Engineering: Strong hands-on experience building microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, or event-driven backend systems in Go.
\nKubernetes Application Logic & Tech Stack: Deep familiarity with Docker, K8s manifests, Helm charts, GitOps workflows (Argo/Flux), relational databases (RDBs), KV Caches, and Event Buses, focusing on building applications for Kubernetes.
\nProduct & Customer Intuition: Demonstrated experience interfacing with external clients, solutions architects, or cross-functional teams to solve real operational problems.
\nSystem Design & Security Boundaries: Clear understanding of workload isolation, secrets management, identity-aware communication, and failure domain boundaries.
\nPragmatic Ownership: Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where debugging spans client applications, networking layers, and platform code.
\n\n
