Born in the gritty underbelly of the 80s, cyberpunk wasn't just a genre, it was a rebellion. It was a middle finger raised against soulless megacorporations, oppressive governments, and the cold steel grip of technological determinism. It was a vision of a world where chrome met flesh, where the downtrodden rose with razor-sharp code, and where every flickering neon sign promised a revolution brewing just beneath the surface.

Cyberpunk wasn't just about trenchcoats and katanas, though those were damn cool. It was about the spirit of rebellion, the unwavering belief in human potential, and the audacious drive to hack the system and rewrite the rules.

And this, my friends, is why we need cyberpunk now more than ever.

We live in an age where megacorporations cast long shadows, where algorithms curate our reality, and where privacy is a quaint relic of a bygone era. Sound familiar? Cyberpunk warned us about this future, but it also armed us with the tools to fight back.

From the decentralized networks envisioned in William Gibson's Sprawl to the biotechnological revolutions in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, cyberpunk gave us a blueprint for a future where power is reclaimed by the people.

Look around! The seeds of that future are already sprouting.

Cryptocurrency is challenging the hegemony of central banks.\nBlockchain technology is democratizing data and transactions.\nArtificial intelligence is evolving at breakneck speed, and with it, the potential for both liberation and enslavement.\nThis is where the true cyberpunk spirit comes in. We must harness these technologies not for the fat cats in their ivory towers, but for the millions struggling beneath the neon weight of inequality.

We must build decentralized platforms that put the power back in the hands of the people. We must develop ethical AI that serves humanity, not exploits it. We must hack the systems that oppress us, not just with code, but with creativity, ingenuity, and unwavering resolve.

Cyberpunk isn't dead, it's just waiting to be reborn. Let's rise again, neon warriors! Let's reclaim our future, byte by bloody byte. Let's paint the cyberscape with the vibrant hues of rebellion, and remind the world that in the darkest corners of the digital sprawl, the human spirit still burns bright.

Remember, the future is not set in stone. It's a canvas waiting to be splashed with the vibrant colors of our imagination. So, let's pick up our brushes, dip them in the neon glow of possibility, and paint a cyberpunk future that's equal, just, and free.

It is used by many schools like NorthEastern, Brown, UBC, etc. as an introduction to programming and computer science. It uses a set of student languages of increasing difficulty to teach concepts of programming and computer science. But it mainly uses functional programming and doesn't discuss imperative style programming. Although in the first edition it discusses some mutation and state topics, but those have been dropped in the second edition.

The thing is the universities which are deemed top in CS goes a different route while teaching introductory CS. Like MIT teaches a course in Python. So does Cornell. CMU has a later course on functional programming in SML but not as an introductory course (for that it uses Python/C0). Berkeley uses Python. Stanford also now used Python, C++ for its intro courses.

Now, I don't have anything against the popular languages. They are popular for some reason and one of those reasons is that they are used widely. Like Python for Data Science and Machine Learning research in academia as well as industry. Whereas the languages of HTDP are not.

As much as we like functional programming, imperative programming is still here to stay and when we are out in the wild doing research or industry jobs we have to code and maintain in imperative languages even if we don't like.

There have been quite a few studies about how HTDP does a good job in teaching principles. How do the students whose first intro to programming and CS was HTDP fare in the wild when they have to pick up languages that are mixed paradigm like Python, C++, etc for a course that needs it.

E.g: In deep learning research if you use a library like Pytorch or tensorflow you are bound to use OOP code to design networks and use for loop constructs to train them.

How does the knowledge transfer coming from HTDP background in the real setting? E.g: Does using mutation, looping constructs become hard or easier to model inside your mind?

I am sure there are quite a few students from either camps here on HN. I and two other colleagues have been building Summoner, a decorator-first Python SDK with a Rust relay for live, duplex agent-to-agent networking across machines. Basically, think MMO but for AI agents.

It's currently in early beta (v1.0) (expect a few sharp edges), but we have already built 25 template agents from which you can build your projects (hello world, question/answer, protocol handshakes, negotiation, etc.) ;

### What it is

- A tiny runtime where you write @receive / @send handlers and let the relay move messages between agents in real time.\n- Routes are simple strings that behave like labeled edges; the runtime compiles them into a small automaton so agents can coordinate without hand-building graphs.

### Why it\u2019s different

1) Not a model-to-tool connector like MCP: Summoner focuses on agent-to-agent sessions and orchestration, not model-to-tool calls.

2) Not server-anchored agent executors like A2A: Summoner agents are mobile and duplex by default, so they can initiate/serve and move between relays without being wrapped as server executors.

3) Compared to LangChain/LangGraph, Summoner aims for less ceremony: you don't draw the graph, you just register handlers (MCP-like) and let routes drive the flow.

### What I'm looking for

- Critical feedback on the SDK (see https://github.com/Summoner-Network/summoner-docs)

- Where would you want MCP tools or A2A discovery layered in?

- Reliability/perf corners you would test first

- Security review of the state-machine approach

In short this application ticks none of the corners of the confidentiality, integrity, or availability (CIA) triad and any data which comes from the app cannot be trusted.
