We’re building prod, not god. TypeSafe is an AI lab pushing frontier model intelligence in a new direction, starting with System One Models. We combine the reasoning of LLMs with the reliability of code, for truly trustworthy AI. Our first model, Jev, launched in September 2026.
While others chase leaderboards, we’re rebuilding the LLM stack from first principles to make models smarter and also dependable enough to run in production. We’re a small, fast team backed by an $870M Series A led by a16z. Made in SF, with love. Come join the frontier.
We're looking for scrappy engineers who ship data-tooling interfaces fast. You will progress model intelligence through the interfaces, datasets, and evaluation tooling you build, combining product sense, data science, and engineering. You'll be part of the real \"secret sauce\" of TypeSafe: figuring out how our models can provide production-ready reliability in the real world.
Our tech stack is primarily Python. We also use TypeScript, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS for frontend, with Kubernetes for orchestration. We empower developers to use any tooling they find helpful for getting their job done, including AI and agents.

Create high-leverage datasets, products, and user interfaces that unlock new capabilities and use cases on top of our model
Build internal data-tooling and evaluation interfaces — fast — that make model development clearer (evaluation, debugging, data inspection)
Develop and own evaluation frameworks to measure quality, reliability, and emergent characteristics across model iterations
Run rigorous analyses and experiments to understand how data, training choices, and targeted interventions impact model behavior
Turn raw model outputs and data into clear, inspectable UIs — owning a domain end-to-end, with craft and judgment over simple optimization
Partner closely with product managers and customers to translate real-world needs into concrete model and system improvements
Continuously iterate, learn, and co-discover new techniques for building exceptional, trustworthy AI products
Are generalists with solid fundamentals, strong coding ability, and product intuition
Maintain high attention to detail and a strong bar for quality
Enjoy thinking beyond the code to how systems are used in the real world
Are scrappy and hacky, and thrive in ambiguous problem spaces — taking satisfaction in finding creative solutions
Don't trust LLMs blindly — they look at the reality of model generations
Have hands-on experience implementing LLMs and understand their capabilities and limitations
We’re a small, flat, close-knit team working to make intelligence dependable enough to become part of everyday software. We work fully in person from our San Francisco office near Embarcadero station. We love what we do and care deeply about the work.
We strive for excellence and craftsmanship and won’t stop until we get there. When the team wins, we all win, and we enjoy collaborating and inspiring each other to grow—as a team and as individuals.

Have experience designing storage abstractions for scaled backend systems
Have experience designing resilient systems and improving on-call experience on production systems
Collaborate well with others on technical and product design, advocating for what you need, and adjusting specs to changing requirements and feedback
Are mission aligned and excited to go all-in

You'll own how TypeSafe shows up in the world, from the story we tell to how developers and enterprises discover, adopt, and champion what we build. There's no team to inherit and no playbook to run. You'll work at all altitudes — setting the high-level strategy and then doing the tactical work yourself, from positioning down to the copy.
Narrative and content: shape the company blog, thought pieces, and our unique perspective on AI, and position our founders and researchers as leading voices
Product marketing: define our category and translate deeply technical capabilities into messaging that developers resonate with
Brand and channels: own our company brand, website, and social cadence across X and LinkedIn
Launches and announcements: coordinate product releases and announcements from press to podcasts to events
Demand generation: build developer and enterprise interest to build our pipeline
Have built a marketing function from zero at a start-up and can both set strategy and execute it
Are tactically broad — can own narrative, launches, demand, and growth experiments across channels from social to SEO to email
Have 5+ years of professional expertise in high-performing teams, including under shifting and ambiguous environments
Write exceptionally well — clear, technical, and fast
Have taste: know what's credible, what's hype, and what's premature
Are fluent in the AI industry, leverage tools yourself, and can credibly talk models and APIs with our engineers and researchers
Show complete ownership — think at the level of goals, not tasks or tickets
Solve problems from both first-principles reasoning and a reservoir of lived experience

You'll build and run the community around TypeSafe, helping developers discover Jev, get started, and stay involved as they build. You'll own both the member experience and the systems behind it, from welcoming new builders and running hackathons to creating workflows that keep a growing community organized and responsive.
There's no playbook to run. You'll work closely with our founders, engineers, and Developer Relations to turn early interest into an active community where people build, share what they learn, and help shape what comes next.
Community experience: run our community channels, welcome new members, spark useful conversations, and establish clear guidelines that keep the community helpful and engaged
Programs and relationships: build programs for our most engaged developers, support community-led initiatives, and develop relationships with organizers and partners
Events and logistics: own hackathons, meetups, and community events from planning and promotion through registration, vendors, swag, and follow-up
Systems and workflows: build the tools, documentation, and automations behind onboarding, member support, event operations, and community communications
Feedback and follow-through: surface recurring questions, product feedback, and promising use cases to our technical team, and close the loop with members
Measurement and improvement: track participation, retention, response times, and what members are building; use what you learn to improve programs and focus our effort
Have built or scaled community programs, developer communities, or operations at a fast-moving startup
Can design a program and handle the details yourself, from recruiting participants to answering questions and making sure an event runs smoothly
Bring strong operational judgment and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple moving pieces and follow through
Write clearly and communicate with warmth, responsiveness, and good judgment, especially when handling feedback or difficult conversations
Are comfortable with community and operations tools automation, and know when to simplify rather than add process
Are curious about AI and technically fluent enough to understand what developers are building, recognize where they're stuck, and connect them with the right help
Care about developers and people and understands their desires
Reason through process strategically before making a decision

We're looking for a safety researcher to join TypeSafe, get increasingly quiet in meetings, and quit about six weeks later because they're disturbed by what they've seen.
Build evals and investigate model behavior that concerns you.
Ask “should we?” in meetings scheduled to discuss “how soon?”
Keep a document that starts as “Initial observations” and ends as “For the record.”
Write a departure post that makes people concerned enough to share it, despite containing almost no information.
A strong research background in AI safety, alignment, interpretability, or model evaluation.
Experience raising concerns calmly, then in writing.
The ability to say “I can't discuss specifics” and somehow make things worse.
A sincere belief that you can change things from the inside. We'll need that for the first two weeks.
Weeks 1–2: Get set up, meet the team, and tell your friends the work is fascinating.
Weeks 3–4: Request additional access. Receive it. Stop telling friends about work.
Weeks 5–6: Write a long internal memo. Take a walk. Decide you won't be coming back on Monday.
You'll be working with people you'll later describe as “some of the most talented people I've ever worked with.”

We’re building prod, not god. TypeSafe is an AI lab pushing frontier model intelligence in a new direction, starting with System One Models. We combine the reasoning of LLMs with the reliability of code, for truly trustworthy AI.
Our first model, Jev, launched in September 2026.
While others chase benchmarks, we’re rebuilding the LLM stack from first principles to make models smarter and also dependable enough to run in production. We’re a small, fast team backed by an $870M Series A led by a16z. Made in SF, with love. Come join the frontier.
We're looking for scrappy engineers who specialize in frontend and fullstack. You seek joy in beautiful visualization and engaging user interactions - whether it be mobile, webUI or virtual reality. You love fast iteration, you have taste, you don’t stop until it meets your bar.
Our tech stack is primarily Python. We also use TypeScript, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS for frontend. We empower developers to use any tooling they find helpful for getting their job done, including coding agents.
Create high-leverage user interfaces that unlock new capabilities and use cases on top of our model
Turn raw model outputs and data into clear, inspectable UIs — owning a domain end-to-end, with craft and judgment over simple optimization
Own product features end-to-end — from design and prototype to production — with craft and judgment
Build polished, reliable user interfaces that are enterprise-scale
Partner closely with product, design, and customers to translate real-world needs into model, system, and product improvements
Instrument, measure, and improve product quality, reliability, and performance
Are generalists with solid full-stack engineering fundamentals, strong coding ability, and product intuition
Maintain high attention to detail and a strong bar for quality and speed
Enjoy thinking beyond the code to how systems are used in the real world
Are scrappy and hacky, and thrive in ambiguous problem spaces — taking satisfaction in finding creative solutions

TypeSafe AI is an AI lab building machine-native intelligence infrastructure for automation, designed to make decisions within software by combining the intelligence of LLMs with the efficiency and reliability of code into a new shape of AI: System One Models.
TypeSafe AI recently launched its first public model, Jev. Adoption has been incredibly rapid, and we now count around one-third of the Fortune 500 as users.
We’re a small, fast-moving team from OpenAI, Google Brain, and Meta/FAIR, backed by top-tier investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia.
You’ll be TypeSafe’s first legal hire, building and leading our legal function as the company grows. You’ll work directly with our founders and across engineering, product, and go-to-market to help us launch products, work with customers, partners, and vendors, and make thoughtful decisions about risk.
Your foundation should be in commercial work, product counseling, and privacy. You’ll also own the broader legal agenda, handling matters yourself where you have the expertise and bringing in specialists where needed.
This is a hands-on role with substantial judgment and ownership. You should be comfortable negotiating a customer agreement, working through a data-handling question with engineers, and deciding which legal processes we need to build next. We’re looking for someone who can marry legal advice with pragmatism, make clear recommendations, and help the team move forward quickly.
Commercial agreements: Lead customer and partner negotiations, including enterprise agreements, API distribution and reseller arrangements, data processing agreements, and vendor contracts. Build templates and negotiation playbooks that support growth and protect what matters.
Product and privacy counseling: Work with technical teams on product design, data use, retention, international processing, and security commitments. Translate legal requirements into decisions and policies that teams can implement.
AI and regulatory developments: Identify the laws, regulatory developments, and industry practices that could affect our products and business. Develop informed positions and help us decide when and how to act.
Legal systems and self-service: Establish contract intake, approval, signing, and management processes. Build guidance and tools that let teams handle routine matters independently, using automation and AI where they improve speed and reliability.
Company-wide legal support: Own how employment, corporate, governance, intellectual property, and other legal matters get handled. Recognize when specialist advice is needed and turn that advice into clear next steps.
Outside counsel and resources: Choose and manage outside counsel, set priorities and budgets, and decide what to handle internally. As demand grows, determine where tooling, a contracts manager, additional counsel, or other support would have the greatest impact.
Business partnership: Build trust across the company, get involved early, and help resolve difficult questions. Offer clear recommendations that account for the legal exposure, commercial stakes, and practical alternatives.
Have at least 10 - 15 years of relevant legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience at a growing technology company.
Bring strong legal training, ideally including experience at a leading law firm, and a track record of applying it effectively inside a business.
Have substantial commercial contracting experience and can counsel independently on product and privacy matters, with good judgment about the limits of their expertise.
Have helped a company scale its legal operations and know how to build processes that fit the company’s stage.
Are curious about AI and willing to learn how our technology works, how customers use it, and where the legal questions arise.
Make practical decisions under uncertainty, distinguish material risks from manageable ones, and consider operational and commercial solutions alongside contractual protections.
Enjoy doing the work themselves, respond quickly, and follow through in a fast-moving environment.
Communicate clearly and build productive relationships with technical teams, customers, executives, investors, and outside counsel.
Know how to prioritize limited resources and can explain what they would build, buy, delegate, or leave for later.
Are admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction and eligible to practice as in-house counsel in California.
We work fully in person from our San Francisco office near Embarcadero station. You’ll work closely with the people building the technology and shaping the business, with room to establish how legal supports both.
We care about craftsmanship, thoughtful collaboration, kindness, and doing work we’re proud of. We want TypeSafe to be a place where you grow and make a meaningful contribution.
