- What are interviews like these days? How important is it to have a visable portfolio of working projects?
- How much of the AI hype is HN nerds nerding out about AI versus actually implementing AI, versus gluing AI apis together?

They\u2019re just so radically different from what I do now, and mostly at senior+ level. I see so many cool jobs and think \u201cshit, I could do this, I\u2019ve been doing stuff like this since forever\u201d but then quickly realize that on paper I haven\u2019t done anything remotely relevant and since these are senior level roles there\u2019s just no point in applying. On the occasion I see a role that look interesting that I believe I can spin my past experience to look reveling for, I get very quickly screened out with a generic ATS rejection. There doesn\u2019t seem to be a way to win. Side projects don\u2019t make up for experience in senior level roles and don\u2019t fit on a resume in any manner that someone would read. The one option seems to be doing some serious open source work in a project in the domains I\u2019m interested in, but that would end up being a second career on its own.
Similarly majority of the recruiters I get are recruiting for roles that basically just land me in the same type of roles I\u2019ve worked in the last, maybe with better pay. I have seen reddit, facebook, telegram, and twitter communities as well as sites like stuffthatworks where people do so to collaborate and help others fighting the same conditions, and it has personally helped me to see others\u2019 successes, mistakes, and research. I\u2019ve shared my own experiences there and made people second-guess things they were deciding on with added info about complications and alternatives. I want to take the good things from those and improve on the not-so-constructive things\u2014for example, I\u2019ve seen some of these communities where people feel lost and without hope because they just can\u2019t find info. I have a big feature planned to address just that.
Very importantly, please don\u2019t do anything just because you see it on Healthstack. I think so much of the value of something like it is in provoking you to come up with questions and ideas to ask your doctors about, so you can shrink the huge power- and information-differential that often exists in such a relationship. Reading the experiences of others should help you feel empowered that you know how to get the info you are after, whether that is insisting on a test to be performed, bringing up the potential complications of something and asking how you can minimize them, or just knowing to seek a second opinion when things don\u2019t line up. A single doctor will rarely have all the answers, but in conjunction with Healthstack I suspect you can be a much more informed patient than you would be with just one of the two.
