Trigger.dev is an open source platform that makes it easy for developers to create event-driven background tasks directly in their code. You write workflows using our SDK, and can view all the runs in our web app.
Why we built this:
- We found current workflow / automation tools like Zapier and n8n are good for simple tasks, but not for more advanced use cases.
- Dropping down into code in these tools is just not a great experience. We prefer using our own IDEs, version control, and having access to GitHub Copilot etc.
- Sometimes, a workflow requires us to query a database or handle some sensitive information. It would be great if this data wasn’t sent to a third party.
Our beta version lets you:
- Trigger workflows from webhooks, custom events or schedules (CRON)
- Use API integrations with Slack, GitHub, Shopify and Resend. We’re adding more of these each week.
- Add delays of up to 1 year. Workflows will resume where they left off, even if your server has gone down.
- Support for Fetch and subscribing to generic webhooks.
- Observe every workflow run in the app (great for debugging).
- Open source MIT license so anyone can self-host the platform.
We’re still early so would love your feedback and opinions. Feel free to try us out for free – and if you want a specific API integrated, just let us know.

We're so excited to share Automatisch with HN finally. Automatisch is an open-source workflow automation tool, an alternative to Zapier. Together with my co-founder (@barinali), we have been working on it for about 15 months and have started getting early adopters.
Automatisch is a workflow automation tool that lets you connect different web services like Slack, Github, Twitter, and more to automate your business processes. For example, you can build automation that gets all new tweets, including the "open source" phrase, and post them to the Slack channel you specified. You can adjust the services and steps depending on what you actually need to automate in your business.
Even though some existing cloud solutions do the job well enough, we still wanted to build an open-source and self-hosted alternative to those. Because it allows you to store your data on your own servers, which is essential for businesses that handle sensitive user information and cannot risk sharing it with external cloud services. This is especially relevant for industries such as healthcare and finance, as well as for European companies that must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
You can see the available integrations here (https://automatisch.io/docs/guide/available-apps). We currently have limited integrations but are constantly working on adding more and enhancing the existing ones. You can also request a new integration by using GitHub discussions: (https://github.com/automatisch/automatisch/discussions/categ...).
You can use the following links to check it out:

Natural Language Actions – https://zapier.com/l/natural-language-actions
API docs – https://nla.zapier.com/api/v1/docs
(to be fair, we have published APIs before that can access Zapier data, but never before one devs can use to directly call the 5k+ apps / 20k+ actions on our platform)
For example, you can use the API to:
* Send messages in Slack
* Retrieve a row in a Google Sheet
* Draft a reply in Gmail
* ... and thousands more actions with one universal API

We optimized NLA for use cases that receive user input in natural language (think chatbots, assistants, or any product/feature using LLMs) -- but not strictly required!Folks have asked for an API for 10 years and I've always been slightly embarrassed we didn't have one. We hesitated because we did not want to pass along our universe of complexity to end devs. With the help of LLMs we found some cool patterns to deliver the API we always wanted.
My co-founder/CTO Bryan did an interview with Garry on YC blog with more details: https://www.ycombinator.com/blog/building-apis-for-ai-an-int...

There are open-source automation tools that we think are too technical like Huginn and Node-RED or developed under less permissive open source licenses like N8n.
So we decided to build an open source automation tool under a permissive license (MIT) with a simple user experience that doesn’t require technical knowledge, and can be self-hosted. We plan to make money from the cloud version and a future enterprise edition with advanced features - maybe advanced roles and permissions.
The current version includes a visual designer for automation flows which can run on schedules (Cron), by Webhooks, or by triggers from external apps—25 apps and counting, including Stripe, Calendly, Google Sheets and others (we’re building these rapidly).
The app is customizable, you can add custom steps using HTTP requests or you can write Node.js code and bring in your npm packages.

Pipedream is an integration and compute platform purpose-built for developers building workflows and connecting cloud services.
You can author workflows without writing any code: Pipedream supports over 700 integrated applications (GitHub, Slack, etc) [1] and all connectors are open source [2]. In addition, you can write any Node.js, Python, Go, or Bash code within workflows, extending the pre-built integrations with your own custom logic.
Since we launched Pipedream on HN [3], over 300k developers have used the product. Pipedream developers tell us consistently that they love the code-level control when they need it, and the built-in, no code integrations when they don't. But we’ve also heard consistent feedback that the product needed to be easier to use, support more language runtimes, and provide a native Git integration.
In Pipedream v2, we have re-imagined the entire product and key features, including:
- Multi-language support including Node, Python, Golang, and Bash
- Data Stores to store and retrieve data across steps & workflows
- Open source triggers and actions for 700+ applications
- Improved workflow builder to test and iterate without impacting live workflows
- Multiple triggers are now supported per workflow
- Improved forms and testing for rapid step-by-step development
We’re working on a GitHub integration now, which will let you manage workflow definitions as code. You can still use the Pipedream UI to author workflows, and use Pipedream’s pre-built integration components to build integrations, but you’ll be able to serialize those workflows to code. Think Terraform or CDK for app integrations. You can sign up for our waitlist below. [4]

HN Community,
I'm excited to share something we have been working on for over the past few months: Locale.ai. Its heart and soul lie in its SQL-configurable nature. You can directly connect Locale to your databases, data warehouse, or any SaaS tool that you use internally and craft custom alerts and ticketing conditions with SQL queries. The issues also get resolved on their own as we can detect them through data.
Before starting Locale, we worked across companies and managed tons of cron jobs with email reports, slack alerts for customer success operations and product. It’s a tool born out of our problems of missing issues because of noisy slack channels, faulty cron jobs, airflow and constantly refreshing dashboards.
Locale identifies moments that need your attention based on the rules you set, and alerts the right people at the right time. These alerts then become tickets sent across Slack, WhatsApp, Jira or anywhere your team works so that you can track for resolution and enable escalation if not solved.
Whether you're in product, operations, sales, marketing, or any other team, Locale adapts to your unique workflows. It's designed to give you the power to define precisely what you want to monitor and how you want to be alerted across multiple channels, as long as you have the data captured for it.
Would love to hear your feedback, suggestions, or any cool ideas on the possible use cases for Locale. We're a small team determined to make this tool as user-centric as possible, so your input is invaluable to us.

HN! I'm Mike, co-founder at Zapier and head of Zapier Labs. Today our Labs team is launching a public version of Zappy (download it here: https://zapier.com/zappy): a fast, free screen capture tool that we built for our remote team.
At Zapier, we have 300+ teammates working from across the globe with no central office—we've been fully remote since day one. We've learned that increasing communication bandwidth is crucial when you're working remotely.
We wanted a tool for screenshots/GIFs to supplement apps like Slack, but nothing on the market had the mix of speed and features we were looking for. So, we built it ourselves. Zappy is a cornerstone of how we work at Zapier, nearly everyone at Zapier uses Zappy every week (voluntarily)! And we want to share it.
Why now? People around the world just experienced a sudden shift to remote work—and we know life sans-office comes with unique challenges. We want to share our experience and make that transition a little easier.
Our goal with Zappy was to provide a screen capture experience that was so fast, people would actually want to use it to communicate. To capture something, you hit a keyboard shortcut, draw a square, and press enter. Zappy copies the image to your clipboard so you can paste it anywhere (or provides a path to your GIF/video).
You can draw annotations, record a selfie view, and stitch shots together. Captures support image, GIF, and MP4 formats. One of my favorite features is being able to grab past captures from the Mac menu bar, instead of digging through folders.
We're working on more features, too, like self-hosted captures on S3, sharing permissions, and a Zapier integration. :-)
Zappy is free to download and use for anyone (you'll need a free Zapier account to log in once). And, as a special gift for paid Zapier customers, you'll get free capture hosting while it's in early access.
We'd love to hear your feedback and ideas. We've developed a way to turn API specifications, like OpenAPI 3.0, into Zapier Triggers and Actions for you to automate parts of an app, with the added benefit of SDK generators.
Documenting endpoints sucks. What sucks more is a clunky interface to let nontechnical use your app or outdated/nonexistent SDKs for technical people to set and forget. This project originated from my cofounder and I having to make Zapier.com and Make.com apps frequently while not getting what we wanted out of https://openapi-generator.tech/docs/generators/zapier/.
Our installation/setup is straightforward with a dashboard and Make/Zapier keys. Create an API spec by using our request scanning extension or the supported docker plugin. If you have an API spec ready to go, plug it in on the uploads page. Next, you hit the create Zapier or Make plugin, and it generates then uploads the code to your developer dashboard on either respected platform once you have parametrized the API paths. We're starting off with API-key based auth for Make and Zapier.
It's free and appreciate any feedback as we are ironing out bugs.
We're excited to hear what you all think and please try it out!
